Well, my take on it all was that Chris Carter & co had no real clear idea of what they were doing, & made up a lot of stuff as they went along, rather than planning the whole overall story beforehand.

Consequently, the series is filled with many inconistencies & contradictions, & the whole conspiracy is a mess.




It's ages since I've bothered watching any X-Files episodes, although there was a time when I would have "marathon" sessions of watching whole seasons. So I can't really remember it too clearly now to give a good explanation of it all.


There's a good X-Files book called "X-Treme Possibilities" which has a detailed episode guide (only for 1-5 though unfortunately), & actually tries (& succeeds) to make some sense of the whole "Conspiracy" plotline(s). I think it's out of print, but Amazon have some very cheap "used & new" copies - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...011836-0654241
