ow would you find out if a piece of equipment is causing noise(frequency) either down the power cable or a RF cable and how would you measure it.

Hmmm Noise is random energy at random frequencies, Usually one would use 'listening' equipment to find it, the 'Rectum Paralyser' mentioned above is the electronic/radio engineers slang for Spectrum Analyser which displays a graph of radio frequency (x Axis) against amplitude (y-axis). Most domestic electronic equipment generates 'noise' from a few Kilohertz to maybe several hundred Megahertz. If you are looking for noise generated by audio gear you could try placing a Medium wave transistor radio near it and tuning through the band, evertime you come to a spot where you can only hear 'noise' not to be confused with 'rap' music, turn off the piece of gear you think is producing noise. IF the sound level in your radio changes (either louder OR softer) then you can be sure your 'kit' is producing noise.

Only white noise is random. Noise can also occur on specific frequencies. Any unwanted signal can be classed as noise.
What equipment specifically is affected?
