Why nobody has created an easily hackable wireless device for the iPod is beyond me, it would be THE nail in the coffin for BPI, RIAA etc...

well they announced the release of windows VISTA didnt they so they may do a joint release! so that windows vista argo and office 2007 are all released at same time

I think the iPod may well triumph over it. After all, even though it may be technically far better than the iPod, people have started to refer to mp3 players as iPods (even if not from Apple), so the name iPod has passed into general usage.

It's a similar situation to the Walkman in the 80s. Sony's Walkman was not necessarily the best portable cassette player, but it beat the others due to the brand name.

iPod have grip on the market so it will take alot of clever marketing from microsoft. They can do it, they shunted the xbox into a playstation world and got a sucess from it.
I think timing will be the ultimate key, they need to bring out better technologys before the iPod at a lower price.

id like to see if/how they will integrate it with vista, wireless media centre possibly?

i agree my auntie got an mp3 so i showed her how to use it with her pc and her husband said "so how do you work this ipod" most people do that these days

The fact it has so many features shows just why it will fail. Wireless? All of this stuff has been thought of by Apple I am sure, especially with their home media thingy they got going on (airtunes). But the battery life will suck. MS is throwing every at it makes a clunky, expensive, complex, battery heavy mp3 player.
