2 sim cards, 1 number, 1 bill
Hi,
Our SD has bought himself a new car, its a Merc C class... Now the carphone built into it has a slot to insert the sim card out of your mobile. Our SD is about 55 and has only had a mobile for about the last 4 years (only persuaded him to start doing his quotes on a laptop about a year ago)..
Basically, rather than him pulling the sim out of his phone to put in the car all the time, does anyone know if its possible to get a "second sim" to keep in the car, and then just switching his mobile off when he gets in the car and vice versa? I spoke to vodafone who were extremely unhelpful, and advised that we buy a bluetooth headset if he wants to use handsfree in his car...

Re: 2 sim cards, 1 number, 1 bill
Orange used to do something like this I think but it involved 2 accounts linked sharing minutes with different numbers.
1. BOB (mobile)
2. BOB (car)
??
When you put your sim in your phone it registers you on the network, having 2 identical sim cards (if it where possible) would confuse things.

Basically you want to clone your sim card, I know it can be done as a mate had one a while back, downside is, I don't know if it's legal I can't see why not, after all, he will only be using one at a time and not be trying to defraud / cheat the company outta money.

Re: 2 sim cards, 1 number, 1 bill
My boss ended up getting a second Sim card, and separate number for his car. I think though there was some sort of link for call forwarding or similar, but no idea what that would have costed.

IIRC call forwording cost something along the lines of a fiver, that was on Vodafone, when the gf switched to an O2 handset / number she still had some contract left with VF, I had the bright idea of setting call forwarding, only when we got the bill, from VF did we realise there was a cost involved ......lol

Re: 2 sim cards, 1 number, 1 bill
T-Mobile used to offer this service specifically for cars.
I don't know how successful it was or if they still do it but it might be worth a shot phoning them.
The normal sales guys probably wouldn't have much info on it so business sales would be the best bet.

Re: 2 sim cards, 1 number, 1 bill
I think that's the opposite to what he wants Neil.
Line 2 is two lines on one handset, he wants two handsets on one line!!
Saying that Line 2 really is a great product, shame Orange are a bunch of ******s!
Edit - Was a good deal until they changed it so you pay for two lots of line rental. When I had it you paid a one off fee of £10 to set it up and the calls on both lines came off the same bill.
Scamming *******s.

Yeah he did but if they don't offer it and another company do he could well be interested in switching.

Re: 2 sim cards, 1 number, 1 bill
Thanks for all the info guys...... Looks like its still a minefield... the only way i can think of doing it, is to get a 2nd contract / number, and divert all the calls between the 2 of them instead of to answerphone.... but concerned on the costs of this... as the person transferring the call pays for the transfer... so if i transfer phone A to phone B and phone B to phone A, it would be a continuous loop in effect... if it gets call forwarded ten times between the 2, would we then be paying for 10 calls instead of one??
Ive got our vodafone account manager coming in next week, so will see what he comes up with...
