New Camera?
Hello! for my birthday in a couple days, my mom mentioned she might want to get me a camera because i'm going to be making a bunch of trips over the summer, the one she mentioned first was this one because some of our friends have it and it works well, does anyone have any other good suggestions?

I have the s5000 whith at the time, for me was best bang for the buck.

Spend the same money on ANY Olympus model and you'll be better off - IMHO.
Personally, I've got Pentax gear - for historical reasons. If I was buying from scratch, I'd buy Nikon.
But, if you want a decent, current point-and-shoot type digital camera, you can't beat Olympus.

I have to agree - the Finepix are pretty good point-and-shoot cameras too.

Thanks...
* takes a bow *
Great camera for the money, long lens , for taking pics of aircraft etc...
Taken some great pics of the mrs too when she wanted to enter a fashion competition!
My only gripe is that there is no facility for an external flash.

I don't think very many PAS cameras have that - of course you could always use slave-flash...

They were all very tasteful...
Thought about the slave flash but with the right lighting it was not so much of a problem...

Re: New Camera?
What sort of thing are you after - a big digital SLR with lots of features you wont use or a compact point-and-shoot?
If it's you first digital camera, I would recommend the later. Personally, I have a Pentax Optio - size of a cigarette packet but still takes great photos. The Optio SVi takes 5 mega pixel photos and has a 5 x optical zoom.

Re: New Camera?
woah! keithwalton, that camera looks awesome! but yeah, unfortunately i think that might be a little over-budget
Aragorn, basically what i'm looking for is something similar to the link i had in my first post, i don't want a miniature point-and-shoot camera, my sister already has one, and this one i'm pretty sure my mom and me are going to be using, so yah, something somewhat nice like my first one, if only the one keithwalton pointed out was a little cheaper haha
