Post Tv S Above Fire????

Hi all,.....i m just after a few opinons.
Today i was asked by a customer(who had just bought a 32" plasma) if it would be ok for them to mount their new t.v on the wall,ABOVE THEIR FIRE????(this was a central focal point in the room).
Rather than give mis-leading info i said quite simply,"i dont know!?"
But now its bugging me(im one of those people that needs answers).
Obviously "heat rises",but this is where im unsure it would be a good/bad idea. The fire in question, stuck out a fair bit further than the(realitively flat)plasma and also there was a fire surround fitted to the wall.
When i checked how much heat was right where the tv was to be placed, there was hardly any(and the fire was on full!).I could only feel the rising heat when i moved my hand out a good few inches??????
Any suggestion and feed back would be greatley appreciated,
Thanx in advance!

Re: Tv S Above Fire????

As long as the heat is directed away from the plasma, I don't think there will be a problem.

One thing that caught a friend of mine out though is that he bought a plasma, got someone in to install it. The installer took one look at the wall, said "No way that'll take the wieght" and quoted him to build a support structure behind the wall (it was an internal wall though). I don't think it's because Plasma's are heavy, more that they concentrate the wieght on a relatively small area.

Re: Tv S Above Fire????

Im pretty sure the wall in this case(the fire breast) would be strong enough to hold the weight.I know what your saying though about internal walls etc.Ive seen a few with wall mounted plasmas/lcd that look like they are about to fall down.
I think as soon as you go over a 32" then you need to choose carefull where you mount them.
The last think you want is for you lovely new tv to end up on the floor in pieces.

Re: Tv S Above Fire????

How many times is the fire going to be used? In most cases the fire place is there for show as central heating is used most of the time. I watched 'hoe things are made' on discovery tonight and they test the plasma's to pretty extreme temperatures. way over 35 degrees.
