Remote Control through Wireless Sender
Hello,
Can anyone help me? I have a Samsung silver STB and yesterday I bought the following Wireless Video/TV Link:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ce=1&doy=11m11
I set it all up and managed to get it working, not perfectly, seemed to be a bit of interference, but I do have a wireless LAN and a DECT phone, so I suppose that's understandable. The problem that I am mainly concerned with is the fact that I cannot get the remote to work.
Has anybody else had this problem with a set up like this? Did you manage to resolve it? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks in advance.

 to CF.
I'm afraid its a well known fact that 'most' wireless senders don't like NTL's remote controls (I'm sure one of the techies will explain why), and the page you've linked to does say :

This product does NOT relay remote control signals from NTL or Telewest digital cable boxes.
|
Afaik, the only one that does work is the Digisender X4, but it costs a lot more :

Sorry, I can't be more positive.

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
Thank you.
Yes, it does say that it doesn't work with NTL remotes on the Maplin site. I assumed it was referring to the old style IRdA remotes that came with the Pace boxes. I didn't think that the remote that came with the Samsung would be a problem as it uses a standard signal, or so I believe.
Cheers for your reply though!

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
The Samsung does use RC5 rather than IrDA, but still seems to be very particular about signals via remote extenders. I use a DigiEye to control it (without the videosender bit). That is OK but oddly, if I point the remote directly at the transmitter unit it seems to overload the signal being sent. Never quitre worked it out, I get away with it pointing the remote sidways, but hey it works that way so I live with it!

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
I must admit I have tried pointing the remote in all different directions. I've also tried switching off my Wireless LAN, interestingly this didn't help and it didn't improve the interference on the screen either. So maybe the DECT phone is the problem. There really does seem to be so many variables ...... argghhhhh.

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
I had no end of trouble getting my Samsung STB to work through my Phillips digi sender. Oddly, the remote worked perfectly when I had a Pace STB fitted. Strange when I was using the same remote for both STB's.
With regard to interference and wireless lans. I found the only way to stop my LAN interfering with the digisender, was to disable windows zero config, and to use the adaptors config program to select a fixed channel. Normally when in use, the Windows Zero config scans all channels for available networks, constantly interfering with the digisender signal.
The only interference I get now is a blip on the TV when I first log on and my network card establishes a connection (last about 1 second).

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
Thanks mrm1. Where do you go to disable Windows Zero config? Do you need to alter anything on the wireless router as well?

Right click on your wireless connection in control Panel>network Connections and select properties. Click the Wireless Networks tab and untick "Use windows to configure my..........."
Or you can right click My computer. Select "manage". Cick on "services and Applications" then services. Scroll down to the "wireless zero config" service. Double click, and change "Startup type" to disabled.
You should not have to change any thing on the router, but make sure you know the channel number first.
If all goes belly up, you can re-enable the WZC service as above either reinserting the tick or changing the service to "Automatic" and clicking start at the bottom of the window.
Further info can be found HERE

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
I have turned of the Wireless Zero service and lost my connection. I don't seem to have a config program for my adapter (built in to my laptop) so am unsure as how to re-establish a network connection with the WZ turned off. Can you help me with this?
Regarding the remote: It seems to be working after all, just not very well, and only intermittently. To get any kind of result I have to hold the remote about 2cm from the receiver, then, sometimes and after some delay I do get some result. Does anybody know how I can improve this. I have tried changing the batteries!
Many Thanks for all your suggestions, much appreciated.

Re: Remote Control through Wireless Sender
If you have no other software to establish a connection, I'm affraid you will need to use WZC to connect. You may be able to insert your network details in the adaptor properties box, but not all drivers support this option. (out of the 3 PC's i have connected wirelessly at home, only one supports these options). As your adaptor is preinstalled I doupt these options would be available.

You just need to do the oppisite to what you did to disable WZC. If you then double click on the wireless network icon in the system tray, a box should open whisch displays your available connection(If you have no wireless connections displayed, you can refresh the list from here as well). Click connect and enter any security keys when asked (the key you would have set up when you first set up your router)
