Which Digital Camera?
Guys i've got about £120 to spend on a digital camera (not a great amount i know!) and i've been trawling the net and i aint sure what to get. This link to argos:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st...=80&currPage=8
I was thinking about one of those so which one? Or would anyone recommend any other places online that are better for about the same money?
Cheers

Re: Which Digital Camera?
Fuji Finepix A345 4MP Digital Camera.
Canon PowerShot A400 Digital Camera. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5602496.htm
Digital cameras are not just about the number of MegaPixels, the lens and the image processing software (these will not capture the RAW image, but will compress it to a JPEG at the time the picture is taken) are also critical. Canon and Fuji both have excelent lenses, as does Sony who leave the lenses to Zeiss. Canons DIGIC processing is very good. 4MP will be good enough to print at 8x10in images and 6x4/7x5 will be as good as any film based camera.
I would recomend the Canon, but I am a Canon fan.
Argos have competitive priceing on the Digital cameras, I got mine from there actually. Remember you also need to set aside some money for a bigger memory card, though this can come later, it depends how far away from a computer you will be when you use it, for example, a fortnight away will mean you might want 256-512 of card storage, but a weekend might only need the 16Mb it comes with.

Re: Which Digital Camera?
Yeah i was thinking of that fuji one. Was between that and the Samsung Digimax A4 but what annoyed me about that was that it didnt have a normal viewfinder. I have also indeed set aside money to get a bigger memory card. Thanx for the replys.

Re: Which Digital Camera?
I've got a Canon A510 which is just over your budget by about £10 or so if you shop around.
It's 3.2 megapixel but takes great pictures and it's really easy to use.

Re: Which Digital Camera?
I'd very much suggest two things before you think about which model you're going to buy:
1. Buy a magazine that reviews digital compacts.
2. Go to Jessops with a shortlist, and any questions, try them all out and ask them to take away the results on a CD so that you can compare the shots at home.

Re: Which Digital Camera?
I got a Canon A85 for £140 last year, so the price will have come down a lot by now, probably £100 ish. 4 million effective pixels and all the associated gubbins...
Example photograph from tonight taken on that very camera here
It's good to check out the quality of photos that the camera takes, as well as all the technological mumbo jumbo. You can't go wrong with anything from Canon or Nikon though

You can get review shots for comparison on this review site for most cameras

I can recommend the A345 if you're after a point-and-shoot jobbie. I used to have one of these cameras but I returned it because the battery life was crap. Image quality wasn't too bad, though but it lacked control - everything was automatic.
Also, definately get a bigger memory card. And hard drive, if you like to take lots of photos like myself.
I have a Sony camera. The manual features are good, but there seems to be lots of this "furring" on the image where the colours spill over slightly like when you get a newspaper that has had one of the colour separations mis-aligned. Highlighted below: -
Is this common with all cameras? Especially Sonys?

I have an Olympus D-230 and have never seen this occur in any of the images I have taken.

I've got a Kodak CX7330 and it's never done that either. The easyshare print thing is great, prints out perfect pictures too

Re: Which Digital Camera?
It's called 'purple fringing' or 'chromatic aberation'. It can be seen to some extent in most photgraphs. It is most visible where there is a high contrast - for example, around branches against the sky. The solution? It's less visible on more expensive lenses and also those with less zoom. Some more info:
http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glos...rration_01.htm
It is possible to get rid of some of it by post-processing in, for example, Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
Here's an example using my own camera, a Fujifilm S9500. Zoom into the confetti, especially towards the right, and you will see the same effect.

Re: Which Digital Camera?
Forget all the other cameras, NTL have got the ultimate!
They have launched a competition where you can win a "Pentax 5-million mega pixel digital camera"
*FIVE MILLION MEGA PIXELS*???
My new Nikon D70s only has 6.1 mega pixels...!!
