iPad 2 Help advice Please
I help some older people buy computers/software FOC (blind leading the blind) I try to point them towards apple devises if they don't mind paying the extra as they are normally less trouble. I advised one lady in getting an iPad 2 32Gb wifi via Amazon all went well in fact better because they sent her a 64Gb unit as they did not have any 32Gb in stock. That was back in June as she bought it for a present so it has not as yet been opened. The problem is she received a letter from the selling company asking her to send the unit back as Apple has advised there is a software problem. My advise was NOT TO SEND IT BACK as the advise document should have come via Amazon and I can't find any problem / callback on any Apple web site. If there was a problem within 12 month she could always take it into an Apple Store and get it exchanged.
Any advice would be most welcome.........

Re: iPad 2 Help advice Please
I'm not aware of any recall for iPads, if it's working correctly then I would expect that company has discover the error in sending a 64gb version an want to try and correct the error.

Thanks for that. The company was aware it sent a 64Gb iPad II as they advised this on the invoice and requested "please leave us good feed back" strangely the letter talks of the recall being for the 32Gb iPad II see copy letter (hope it's ok posting)
I'm just concerned it's a con. The lady did pay top dollar @ £481.66 but as she received a 64Gb unit it's not a bad deal.

Re: iPad 2 Help advice Please
I have a 32Gb iPad 2 and with it, Apple Care, so if there was a recall, I'm sure I would know.
Why not get her to take it to an Apple store for confirmation?

Proplem is they will not talk to me or her till its registered on their system. Its still in the box sealed. I think the person it was bought for has had her exam reports so she should be getting in the next few days. The more I read the letter im sure its a con....... I also have a 32Gb iPad II but not in the dates given

I'd scan the letter and send it on to Apple. Then advise the sender of the letter that you've sent it to Apple for advice, sit back and see what happens.

Re: iPad 2 Help advice Please
iPad 2, not 3?
The 32GB and 64GB iPad 2 versions were discontinued back in March, upon the launch of the iPad 3.
Any iPad 2s bought now would either be left over stock... or second hand.
£481.66 for a 32GB iPad 2 is a rip-off, given that the current price of the 32GB iPad 3 is £479, while the 64GB iPad 3 is £559.
OK, so she apparently got sent a 64GB model for some reason, but even so that is overpriced for an old version...

That's a good one also send a copy to Amazon. Most probably I won't get a reply from either.

The price paid was the best price at that time back in May and included P&P. The Lady had done some searches and found the iPad III had some issues with overheating and talk of a callback.

Re: iPad 2 Help advice Please
As a 32GB iPad 3 can be purchased from Apple directly for £479 (with free delivery), paying £481.66 (with delivery) to buy a 32GB iPad 2 is hardly "the best price"!
A 32GB iPad 3 can also be bought for £479 (with free delivery) from a variety of other retailers, including directly from Amazon instead of a Marketplace seller.
It makes no sense to pay the price of an iPad 3 to buy a now-discontinued iPad 2.
Some people reported issues with overheating, just as some people report issues with any new product. There was no general problem affecting all units, and no product recall.

I totally 100% agree with you but for one fact you have not taken on board the iPad was for a women who did not want the new iPad III she wanted the same as the one she had an iPad II for a present. The fact a 64Gb iPad arrived made it a better pill to swallow. The first iPad cam from John Lewis.
When the lady went to John Lewis to buy the second iPad the sales person told her they would not be selling the iPad III until the overheating and WiFi problem had been sorted, hence she went for the iPad II
Regarding the original problem after danielf posted his advise I sent the copy letter to both Amazon and Apple. Amazon have said it must not be sent back unless it is done through them. I have not heard from apple as yet. Thanks danielf good advise

Re: iPad 2 Help advice Please
Apple have been in touch and have confirmed there is no problem with the iPad II and confirmed if it had of been a software problem it could have been sorted by the an update...
Thanks for all your time and input.....
