Hope of a 'pain-free needle' to end injection trauma

Quote:
Scientists have been working on this problem for a while, but a young British inventor based in Somerset may have come up with the solution.
Oliver Blackwell's device looks like the typical syringes used in hospitals and doctors' surgeries around the country, with one crucial difference.
On the front is a much smaller needle which injects a tiny amount of local anaesthetic to ease the pain of the larger needle which follows.
It is essentially two injections in one - the first one, virtually pain-free, paving the way for the second one, which is rendered painless.

Hope for all those wusses out there or a daft idea?

To be perfectly honest Maggy it has never worried me as l have had it done so many times l even forget that its actually happening but there are some people out there including members of my own family who hate the sight of the needle and if it can help them and others then that can be no bad thing.

This sounds a bit complicated and expensive for normal injections unless someone has a real phobia. However, I could see this being a real benefit for dental work as the current system has always felt like someone pushing a jagged 6-inch nail into your gums.

Re: Hope of a 'pain-free needle' to end injection trauma
I thought I had read a.year or so back that they had a working prototype for a device that works in the same way as a hypospray in startrek? If that was true wouldn't that render this invention pointless?
