Phone Upgrade next month
Hey guys I am upgrading my phone next month, and have decided on a Blackberry. I am in two minds, do I go for the Torch 9810 or the Bold 9790? I am using the 3 month upgrade rule by the way

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
I have a Torch 9800 and also a Bold 9700, I would say go for the Torch. They are lower the models that you are looking at.
Here are the specs for both the:
9810 - http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_torch_9810-3723.php
9790 - http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_bold_9790-4332.php

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
Yeah my friend recommends the torch for me based on the screen, among other things

Yes that is why I would recommend as well. If possible pop in to a Carphone warehouse and check out the feel of the handsets.

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
Will do, I intend to do some research on Tariffs as well. Any advice regarding that?

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
Yep Orange. I currently pay £35.00 p/m and I get 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data. I then pay for insurance which I am told they will transfer to the new handset when I upgrade.

I would check as when I tried to upgrade with them 3 months early they tried to charge me for the handset. Also I was paying the same as well. So I just took out a new contract and cancelled the one that I had. After the 3 months (2 contracts for a period but worked out cheaper)

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
I'll keep that in mind, thanks Ok I have just found the early upgrade T&C's, but could someone please explain as I dont quite understand it. My contract would expire in May, but I can upgrade early in Feb.
Quote:
Early Upgrade terms and conditions
If you are a SIM Only customer on an 12 or 18 month contract or a pay monthly
customer on any other type of plan, and are more than 6 months into your contract
with more than 3 months to go before the end of your minimum term, we will let you
upgrade onto a new pay monthly price plan with new phone if you pay your Early
Upgrade Fee. You can’t upgrade to a 30 day SIM Only plan. Your new price plan will
have a new minimum term and you might have to pay to get the phone you want.
You won’t be eligible for Early Upgrade if you pay by direct debit or cheque and have
outstanding debt on your account. Early Upgrade is not available for mobile
broadband or business customers.
The Early Upgrade Fee will be calculated as a lump sum equal to the total monthly
line rental due for the remaining period of your minimum term (on a pro rata basis if
you are part way through a monthly billing cycle). We’ll then apply a discount to that
amount to get to your final Early Upgrade Fee. You’ll need to pay your Early
Upgrade Fee straightaway unless we advise you otherwise.
If your monthly line rental already has a promotional discount we might use that
lower amount to calculate your Early Upgrade Fee and your promotional discount
may continue to apply to your new price plan. However, this is not always the case, so
please ask instore for details.
You can either keep your own Orange phone or trade it in for cash using our Recycle
and Reward scheme. You can read the full Recycle & Reward terms and conditions
here: http://www.orangerecycle.co.uk/infor...rms-conditions
You can decide to cancel your Early Upgrade by telling us within 14 days. You will
need to return your new phone. We’ll then put you back on your original price plan
and at the same point in your minimum term, and either pay you the Early Upgrade
Fee or credit it to your account. Because we can’t get your old phone back, the 14 day
cancellation policy does not apply if you have chosen to recycle your old phone with
Recycle and Reward.

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
I'm with Orange as well - and I can upgrade in Feb. They will charge you for the early upgrade.

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
Does it vary depending on the phone, and is it only the early upgrade fee, or will I have to pay for the handset?

So the way I read that is if you have 3 months left and your line rental is say £15 per month then your early upgrade fee is £45 - they'll then apply some kind of discount to that - probably based on your previous plan usage. If your a high user then you might get that fee paid in full, but if you don't go over your limits then expect to pay the full amount. Not so much of a bargain now is it?
You may have to pay something for the handset unless you can negotiate that handset cost down or by taking a higher tarrif plan/ Either way you'll be paying to upgrade early and a new phone.

Re: Phone Upgrade next month
Think I may hang on then, because I pay 35.00 a month, so its going to be costly
