Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
Apparently I get 'unlimited browsing/email' and a 500 MB allowance for everything else internet related.
Can anyone with a smartphone (Android) that uses Widgets* etc fairly heavily be able to tell me if that amount is adequate or if they go over/need more.
* Things like facebook/twitter updates
weather checks, google maps, etc etc
500 meg 'sounds' like a lot but I dunno, obviously things that stream etc, films and big d/loads would be done via wi-fi

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
I prefer my data manager free on the android marketplace. It has a great little widget too.
I am a pretty heavy user I think and usually go over my 1Gb allowance, however VM now have 5Gb web allowance for an extra £5 a month. Last month I used 1.6Gb.
I use twitter, web, app updates, facebook, and spotify sometimes.

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
watchdog looks good, but can it differentiate between my 'unlimited web/email' and other 3g usage, as apparently I get 'unlimited' (I think 1GB) web use

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
What do you mean exactly? you should just get a data package that covers all usage? Who is it with and what does the tariff info on the site state?

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
I have a 500mb limit on Orange & have had for the last 2 years. Never ever gone over it & the closest I have come to the 500mb is about 300mb.
I have sync on, I check Emails & Gmail/FB/News/used to twitter I browse the web & look through the market at times when at work & bored & I DL odd n sods as well.
I dont stream media of any kind on Orange but I did trial streaming media on GiffGaff for a month (going with them full time from 9 Dec when contract ends) & listened to internet radio & used around 20mb per 30 mins.

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
T Mobile
Tariff info states 500 mb per month + unlimited web browsing/email viewing (although at 1GB of this, you get throttled)
500 MB is for non web browsing activities

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
That just sounds a bit too silly and complicated to me. How would they really tell the difference?

Re: Typical data Usage Question (smartphone)
I have this in my iPad (naughty me ) and it goes full 3G for you tube / streaming and goes at 1mb for surfing.

Edit and when my Internet was down a couple of months back I got through 1.5gb of data without being charged any extra
