HDMI lead for Blu-ray 3D Player
I have just bought a 3D DVD Player and need to buy a HDMI connecting lead. Will a basic one be ok, or is there is special one for 3D. The TV is 3D ready.

re: HDMI lead for Blu-ray 3D Player
I believe it needs to be compatible with HDMI spec 1.4, although I could be wrong.
BTW, do you mean 3D Blu Ray? I don't think there are any 3D DVD players.

All HDMI cables are the same, it is a digital signal so it's either on or off, so you don't need a special cable, Ebuyer are doing some nice green braided cables 2m long for £5.99 at the moment.

They are for LCD HD which will be the 1.3. but the 3D ones you need 1.4.
I wouldn't spend a fortune on one though thinking or being told you'll get a better picture.

Not really.
HDMI v1.4 doesn't have any higher bandwidth than v1.3, it just adds an Ethernet Channel, Audio Return Channel, 4K resolution, and of course 3D.
But that's the interface, not the cables...

For a 3D TV, you do not need "v1.4" cables... and there's officially no such thing anyway. You simply need a "High Speed HDMI Cable" (what is often incorrectly called a "v1.3" cable), or - if you need the Ethernet Channel - a "High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet".
You are correct about not needing to spend loads on HDMI cables, though. So long as the cable is "High Speed" and doesn't have shoddy build-quality then you're fine, no need for fancy £100 cables.

hansi said it was a "High Speed" cable. A "High Speed" cable can handle everything other than the Ethernet Channel.
As I mentioned before, there is no such thing as a "1.3" or "1.4" cable.
The official word on HDMI cables...

Cables are instead rated by their performance capabilities. There are five HDMI cable types to choose from:
Standard HDMI Cable - Designed to handle most home applications, the Standard HDMI Cable can reliably transmit 1080i or 720p video plus surround audio.
Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Same baseline performance as the Standard HDMI Cable, plus a dedicated Ethernet channel for Internet connection sharing and device networking.
Standard Automotive HDMI Cable - Designed for internal cabling of motor vehicles equipped with onboard HD video systems.
High Speed HDMI Cable - Designed to handle video resolutions of 1080p and beyond, including advanced display technologies like 3D and 4K.
High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Same baseline performance as the High Speed HDMI cable, plus a dedicated Ethernet channel for Internet connection sharing and device networking.
Each of these cable types should be clearly marked with a distinctive logo, as shown below...

I agree, I purchased a cheap HDMI cable £3.99, I then tried a £25 HDMI cable and it was just as good as the £25 one.

re: HDMI lead for Blu-ray 3D Player
Yup. There really is no need to spend £££££ on HDMI cables (unless you have a really long cable run required, in which case it is generally best to spend a bit more). So long as the build quality isn't crap then you're fine.
There have been many tests on the web & TV showing that there's no need for expensive HDMI cables. Here's a very good one from Digital Foundry:

Common sense alone says there's no need for expensive ones.
You can't polish up 1's and 0's into anything but 1's and 0's. As long as you get a picture with no break up, you have the best picture you can get.
