Recommend LCD internet TV
I'm looking for a new LCD TV (32")
I want one that does the internet thing with youtube and iplayer, but I'm getting confused as to whether some use both a dongle and ethernet. or just a dongle and no ethernet.
I want ethernet. I've seen one but it says it has no ethernet just a dongle. but it has a LAN port.
headache.

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
A LAN port is for an Ethernet cable.

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
I know. but if you read the spech on some they say Dongle - Yes. Ethernet - No. LAN - Yes.
From reading the spech PDF on one, it looks like the LAN is for streaming files from PC to TV (DLNA server)

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
I think I'm right in saying that all Internet Connected TVs can be hooked up from the router to the LAN port.

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
Ah finally a thread to ask some questions about this subject.
I'm a total newbie when it comes to smart TV's etc...
Now I did see a TV on the market that supports iPlayer, Demand5 and Youtube. I've got 2questions;
1. Is there a Smart TV that offers iPlayer, Demand5 and 4OD?
2. If you have a Smart Tv and access Youtube, can you watch the official 4OD material that's available?
Any info would be great. The guy in Dixons was hitting me with so much jargon it felt like he was shooting me in the face with words. Terrible experience really. My wife wasn't much better. When he asked if we had any questions she asked what size batteries does the remote take. I bet our sorry asses are now on Youtube courtesy of their CCTV!

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
I'm looking at the Sony KDL32CX523BU. seems to have all I need.
Richer Sounds and John Lewis do the 5 year guarantee for £390
£40 more than others are selling for a standard 12 months.

1. Nearly all connected TVs offer Iplayer and YouTube plus many other apps , I believe Samsung and Sony also offer Demand 5 I'm not sure on 4OD but I'd say only a matter of time.
2. I dont think so however I'm not 100% sure on that.
If your current TV is ok you could purchase a connected Blu Ray player or if you got satellite slip the guy from Sky some money to run another feed to another room and add a freesat box http://www.freesat.co.uk/what-you-get/on-demand-tv

If you can go for an LED TV. The image is a lot clearer in my opinion.

Try the following
1. Check the price here 349.99
http://www.electricalexperience.co.uk/product.php?xProd=7837
2. Submit a price match with John Lewis and wait for an email back.

They should accept as the store I've given you offer online and high street and JL give you the 5 yr warranty. I got this deal recently on my 3DTV. Can't always guarantee but worth a try and a 40.00 saving.

Thanks for that, but it says "as long as their service conditions are comparable, such as delivery charges and guarantee terms"
this one doesn't have the same 5 year guarantee included. but I suppose it depends how you look at it.
I'll give it a go anyway and see what they say.
I've found it for £329 including the 5 year guarantee.
I'll see if JL will pricematch this one.

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
John Lewis haven't got back to me yet. I think they're waiting till that one runs out of stock so they can say there isn't any available anymore so we won't price match.

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
Had a reply from the idiots. and as expected they don't want to do it.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Sony Bravia KDL32CX523 TV.
In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I have contacted PRC Direct and discussed their offer with them, this product is only available to in-store customers only and not available through delivery from the store. Unfortunately as the competitor’s nearest store is a considerable distance from your location the offer they are making is materially different to our own; we offer the TV to all our customers who can have the item delivered.
Therefore, I cannot match the price offered. If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website.
I am sorry that I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion
|
I'll just buy it from Amazon.
I think if I were to find an exact match, they'd still find an excuse as to why they won't match. they'd probably throw in a copy of The Daily Mail and say the others don't do that, so it's different.

Re: Recommend LCD internet TV
I got the TV from Richer Sounds. they matched prcdirect's £339 + £10 off.
so down from £384.94 to £329.00 with 5 year guarantee.
