Windows Phone 7

Anyone used Windows phone 7 , the Mrs is after a new phone and likes the Windows 7 range however I'm an Android phone owner and know Windows are the latest to the smartphone party, so am slightly sceptical.

They are rubbish - don't touch 'em. The platform will be dead in 18 months.

I don't know much about it and after getting info off the net it seems a mixed bag of opinions.

Put it this way - until WM7 was released, I had a Windows Mobile (and had done since 2004). I don't like the new platform they created for their phones. It's very locked down - you can't even replace the SD card with another - well you can - get go do some reading before attempting to swap it out.

Android is the way forward!

Re: Windows Phone 7

Why does it matter if its 'locked down'? iOS devices are 'locked down' and are very popular.

I'd say wait until the upcoming new handsets before buying a Windows Phone 7 device, I'd get one if I could afford one.

Re: Windows Phone 7

It doesn't seem too bad from what I've seen of it... certainly better than the awful WM5/6 IMO.

Re: Windows Phone 7

I have an HTC HD7 and have to say that it's a pretty solid platform. I was a Windows Mobile user for years until I drew the line at 6.5 - it was just getting ridiculous by then. Moved away to iPhone for the best part of 3 years and now have the WP7.

It's in exactly the same boat as Android was a while back - new device trying to make it's name. It needs time to do that. I've been running the new version of the OS "Mango" on mine and it's much improved over what you can get on the shops just now.

Content is what's really missing just now in the marketplace, but with a much faster growth than either Apple or Android, it shouldn't be too long before it's a competitor. Smart money is on the answer above which says wait until the new devices are out. Rumoured Samsung Galaxy S II model, as well as the Nokia influx (Google SeaRay to see what the fuss is about).

Also check out http://www.wpcentral.com/ to see some really nice features.
