Anyone want a Batmobile clone?
Someone has built a Turbine powered clone of the Batmobile as featured in Batman and Batman returns..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZSBpFMWk-M
I want one purely because of the sound...

Re: Anyone want a Batmobile clone?
They tried turbine powered formula one cars a while back. They found the responsiveness of the turbine was poor, so they kept their foot down and controlled the power with the brakes. Didn't catch on somehow.
Sounded amazing though

I'd love to have a go at that and have wings come out so it could take off.

Re: Anyone want a Batmobile clone?
Rover experimented with a Turbine powered car in the fifties.
Quote:
During tests, the car has reached top speeds of 90 miles an hour, with the engine running at 50,000 revs per minute.
The Royal Automobile club recorded an acceleration speed of 0-60 (97km) in 14 seconds.

However, it proved difficult to build an engine small enough to fit in a car, which was also fuel efficient, so the gas turbine powered car was never going to be a viable alternative to the combustion engine.

Re: Anyone want a Batmobile clone?
Modern day turbines are amazingly small compared to those from the 40's/50's.. Just look at the replica ME262's that one company produces.. the engine nacelle that was filled with the 19040's engine is only 1/3 filled with a modern day equivalent..
