Question Ideas for a dilema

Hi All

Got a problem, need some ideas.

I have a BT line in one building, on its own electrical wiring. All fine.

I have another building about 50 metres away, with perfect LOS that also has its own internal electrical wiring, but no BT line.

My grandmother will be moving into this house in the next fews weeks and needs to have a dial tone off the line in house 1. BT want about £10,000 to put a fresh line in there as the land is at the end of a looong road with no spare pairs.

My grandmother is obviously old, as many are.. She uses a "Tunsall Lifeline 400" which is basically a wireless alarm that she can pull for emergencys. This triggers a call via the Tunsall basestation through an analog line which raises an alarm for an ambulance.

Now I COULD risk connecting the basestation at house 1 using the range of apparently 50m. I feel this will not be reliable and I cannot risk it. In addition to this, the unit needs charging and it would mean for my grandmother to keep charging at house 1, this is a pain in the ar*e and cannot happen.

Obviously the electrical wiring extensions will be no good on this occasion as the houses are on separate ring mains.

My idea was to find a 200m ranged DECT with an analog extension which would be used for a modem, or a fax or something but I cannot find one on the market?

Ideas?

Thanks

Re: Ideas for a dilema

Why not run a telephone extension cable yourself from building 1 to 2?

This kit will do the job just fine:

How about a 'line of sight' aerial setup between the buildings? I'm not sure what hardware you'd need but in theory it should be do-able.

Re: Ideas for a dilema

thats my problem.. the hardware being available.. I could setup a wireless link between to enable BB but theres no way of transmitting an Analog connection down there. I need an actual dialtone. I was thinking of setting up a sip account and using a sip box etc but didnt like the reliability side to it. I just wanted a DECT handset with a really good range with an analog ext port on one of the receivers. This would be perfect, but it doesnt exist as far as im aware. You know like an ext port you get for a phone on the side of business fax machines..?

I think im just gonna get real personal and put these poles in.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/dect-wireles...97658&t=module I use these over a fairly reduced distance but they should work for 50m
