Multiple cigarette lighter charger - will it kill my battery
Hello Guys
Hoping you can help me. I want to buy a multiple cigarette lighter charger to power a sat nav plus 2 portable headrest DVD players. I am driving to france and will need these to work for about 7 - 10 hours in one go. My question is will having the charger in constant use kill my car battery
Re: Multiple cigarette lighter charger - will it kill my battery
If driving in daylight then all the devices mentioned would equate to the same current drain as a set of headlights. If in doubt just get a battery charge indicator (normally a device that plugs into another lighter socket. This will tell you if the drain is less or more than the alternator can deliver hence draining or charging the battery.
Services: V+ TV, top phone package, XXL Broadband and an additional set top box.

It's just like adding a gang socket to a wall outlet in your home, there is only so much the socket can handle before the fuse blows but saying that things like satnavs and phone chargers only use a small amount of current anyway

That's what I was thinking and was worried it would blow. The only things I will have on it is a sat nav plus dual DVD players. Do you think that would be ok?

I've been on a few longish. family journeys from Glasgow and never had a problem with the battery. As Hugh says as long as you're driving then the battery won't be draining. I usually have 2 portable dvds and a satnav but also can nintendo ds and phones charging. They don't take much electricity.

I regulary run a device with an 8 amp load through a lighter socket and had no problem. The lighter socket though should be fused so check your manual/fusebox and make sure that you stick with about 50% of the load for a constant feed
