Inexpensive Digital Camera recommendation please

I know this sort of thread pops up now and again, but new models come out all the time, and for me it's hard to know whether it's better to get a reduced older camera, or new one.

I've had a Nikon for about 8 years (2mp) but now when zoom is all the way out, it doesn't work properly so have to be zoomed in ax to 1/2 way, so time for a new compact.

As my grandfather would have said, I take snaps, not photos, so something cheap and cheerful to keep in my pocket when on holiday to take photos of random stuff would fit the bill.

I'm thinking of spending £100-£150

Panasonic Lumix FS16 £111.79 at Amazon seems to fit the bill.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Lu...4963844&sr=8-1

review here
http://www.cameras.co.uk/reviews/panasonic-dmc-fs16.cfm

would spend a bit more if there's something loads better for a bit more money, or happy to spend less if there's something better/similar costing less.

I know very little about cameras, my Nikon has served me well for 8 years, so I'm guessing anything by a good make like Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Nikon as suggested in other threads would be fine ?

I see some of the sub £100 look pretty good as well

Panasonic DMC S3
http://www.cameras.co.uk/reviews/panasonic-dmc-s3.cfm
£95 at Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Lu...5009499&sr=8-1

On my current camera I never play with any of the settings, so it doesn't seem worth paying extra for extra functionality. Also I never print out pictures, or do any manipulation of them on PC, just rotate them, upload them to facebook etc for friends and family to see.

Thanks
Al

Re: Inexpensive Digital Camera recommendation please

For something under £100 I don't think you'd go far wrong with http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujifilm-Fin.../dp/B00342UTPM

I'd get in quick though if I was you.

Bare in mind, one of the main factors today is how it's powered. The Camera above is normal battery operated (though rechargables can get around it) :-

Power supply: 4xAA type alkaline batteries (included) / 4xAA type Ni-MH rechargeable batteries (sold separately) 4xAA type lithium batteries (sold separately) / DC coupler CP-04 with AC power adapter AC-5VX (sold separately).

I thought I'd better make that a bit more clearer.

Showing just over the ton (£127) for me.

Must say though I have a S5800 & a HS10 & Fuji probably produce some of the best bridge camera's on the market & for the price I honestly dont think they can be beat.

The Panasonic FS series are very good - we have four between us, including 2 FS30 cameras - even better when Play were selling them for £99. Thoroughly recommended from me.

Yeah the deal was posted on UKHotDeals as well, the camera went for £94.99 to start with. Hence the get in quick comment, typical of Amazon to change the price so quickly. Though saying that you can still get it for that price if you look at the right hand side of the page, still says £94.99, might have wait slightly longer to get it though.

Re: Inexpensive Digital Camera recommendation please

Cheers all,

gone for the Panasonic DMC S3, £90 at play.com has several good reviews of being best budget camera. has intelligent auto which sounds good to me from what I've read, and image stabilisation which I prob would use in museums etc when you can't use flash.

I did see the £99 Fuji, was tempted, but looked too big and bulky for what I want
