3D Monitors - Are they any good?

Like a lot of people, i can't yet afford a big flash 3D Tv so i've been looking at 3D Monitors which are rather a lot cheaper but i wondered if anyone had any experience with these at all, are they any good with 3D movies? are they as good as a 3D TV when watching movies? I already use a 37" HD monitor for my computer but i thought i coudl get one of these monitors purely for watching 3D movies.
This is what i'm looking at
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/240824

Thoughts please

I own a Samsung 63" 3DTV and I can say with 100% honesty that Monitors are no substitute. They are cheap and dont have the detail of some of the high end 3DTV's.

If it's for gaming, then I would just save a little longer and go for a decent sized HD 3DTV.

If you want to watch movies in 3D then the same applies.

A lot of people think 3D is rubbish because they cant stand the glasses, or they watch it in the wrong envioroment. Thats why I chose a 63" over a 50", you just cant miss the 3D coming at you with surround sound, way better than the cinema and hands down better than normal TV.

Thats why I wouldnt suggest a Monitor, It's just going to be no good. Save and get a decent TV.

Thank you for your input but as i stated i can't afford a 3d tv i was really looking for opinions on the monitors, i would not want a 63" tv as my computer monitor, not really enough space lol.
I did think 3d tv's were a gimmick until i went to the Gadget show live and watched SKY3d previews on a 46" 3d tv and i actually nearly fell over with the things jumping out, i have since been to the cinema to watch Thor in 3D and was dissapointed, it doesn't seem like the same sort of 3D

I didnt know it was going to be used as a computer monitor, when I read your post it read as though you wanted to watch movies using the monitor, and I assumed you were trying to go for a cheaper alternative to an actual TV.

Having said that, you must already know yourself that you wont get to view fantastic 3D using a monitor compared to the latest 3DTV's. The Contrast ratio on the monitor is only 70,000 compared to 3 Million on the 3DTV's.

I cant comment on that particular model of Monitor, but LG are a good make, and they do make 3DTV's. But I wouldnt watch a 3D movie on a monitor. I suppose if its being used as a Computer monitor then it may very well do the job.

You also need a Graphics card capable of displaying 3D in your computer.

If it was me in your position, I would save up the cash and get a small 26-32 inch 3D TV and use it as a monitor as well as a TV.

I know all to well what its like to buy something cheap that seems to be good only to discover dissapointment later. As my Dad always said "You get what you pay for".

The reviews on that model look to be good, but all 3D monitors that I have seen lack the required details to play 3D movies, they may be ok for games, or for general web browsing and applications, but thats generally what people do on computers, and I guess thats my initial point.

Re: 3D Monitors - Are they any good?

I keep pondering about getting one for gaming but think the technology needs improving a little before i buy.

The 120hz refresh rate in normal 2D mode will be better though on any of them as this is twice the conventional rate.

For gaming alone it's not worth it. Unless you're rich.

If anyone is going to get 3D for their home they need to do what I did. Research the optimal viewing distance for the TV you are going to buy and buy a TV thats the "Maximum" size for that distance.

IE; I had a 50 Inch Plasma HD. When I played games on the PS3 14ft away, it wasn't clear and as exciting as playing it when I was 6ft away.

When I was ready to buy my 3DTV, I decided against a 50 inch. I would be sitting 8ft away from the screen. So I decided that the optimal viewing distance compared to the size of the screen would better suit a 63 inch screen. And I wasnt wrong.

Forget monitors, they are no way suited for the high demand of 3D.

In my opinion.

Re: 3D Monitors - Are they any good?

High Demand? If its built FOR 3D then it will be able to handle it lol.

I've just bought a 46 Inch 3D TV from Samsung as it was a really good price. Had my Laptop connected last night and was watching 3D clips from YouTube on it. Looked brill

Monitors High Demand Yes. They may very well be built for it, but lets face it, for £150 give or take, what you expect it to deliver is not always what actually gets delivered.

On the flip side, Samsung (Well Done) Have nailed 3D. And you are proof that rigging it up to use as a monitor would in my opinion give far better results that a monitor could give.

You also have the advantage of using it as a TV in the bedroom, etc etc.

Until Companies start improving the 3D technology for Monitors, I just think it's a waste of good money.

You yourself are proof of what most people would do given the option, buy a 3D TV and use it as a Monitor. Thats what i'm doing in August.

I will be buying a 42" next Gen Samsung to be used as a monitor and TV in the office, rather than spending £200 less on a monitor that I know I will be dissapointed with.

Re: 3D Monitors - Are they any good?

Well it's primary use is as a tv and for my games consoles and 2D/3D blu rays. The laptop will only be connected once in a while as the tv is in my living room. It cost me £699 was about have the price that the same model cost last August when it was released.

Do you like it?

If you havent already.....Get Sky TV. Theres loads of stuff on their 3D channel.

I find it very hard to find polarized 3d content on youtube, however if you search online you can get "Side to Side" polarized images and build up a nice little album.

Theres also a lot of 3D documentaries from Amazon which are relatively cheap, some are shown on sky 3d for free though so its worth looking it up.

If you do get sky 3d, you dont need the full package as they say you do. I had a few words with sky and they let me have the 3d package free with my currant package.

I don't think content providers would be happy if your seeing their show(s) in 3D but don't even subscribe to the channel they're shown regularly. Example being ESPN's coverage of the FA Cup final. I thought that was the entire point of having to subscribe to everything.

It's brilliant. 2D pq on it is amazing.

I have VM and wouldn't get Sky as it would cost me too much. VM has a lot of VOD content in 3D now and some free stuff too.

I think you mean stereoscopic and side by side. Polarised is how it works at the cinema, at home it's stereoscopic. It can also be top & bottom or interlaced.

Have a few 3D blu rays and have also tried the TVs 2D to 3D conversion which works quite well on cgi movies.
