Rooting Galaxy S

Hi Folks, hope you can help.

I have a Galaxy S running Android 2.2.1 I'd like to upgrade to 2.3 or a customised ROM. Vodafone UK have said that there is no estimated time for their implementation. All the rooting apps seem to be for 2.2 only.

Can anyone help please ?

Mods: Apologies if this is in the wrong place or breaks any rules

Re: Rooting Galaxy S

you do not need to root the device to
install custom roms but you need to make sure you have 3 button download and recovery working
(custom roms are rooted for you#)
Turn off phone then press vol up home button then power and when you see logo release this should get you into recovery.

Repeat above with vol down and you should get download mode

If that works then you can look into installing a custom rom. Now if you want to go straight to Gingerbread you will need to install GB bootloaders which makes things slightly more complicated but the guides on XDAdev is where you need to start

PLEASE READ THE GUIDE AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING FIRST VERY IMPORTANT

Re: Rooting Galaxy S

Been running 2.3.3 on my SGS for a few weeks, currently on JVH.
As Zing mentioned make sure you DL & install with bootloaders "SBL" as this will cause issues if you go straight from Froyo to Ginger.

lots of info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=656
