Why?

Re: Classic Commodore 64 lives again

Would have been easier to just make a wireless keyboard that just look like the C64. Then sell the for about £15 for novelty value (I think i'd get one for a bit of fun), I'm sure they'd make more money that way round.

Re: Classic Commodore 64 lives again

I've been following this since the announcement last year. Sounds promising, loved the original C64 and this looks really cool.

Commodore is making a Windows PC that fits inside a boxy beige shell that looks exactly like its original C64.

The 8-bit machine was released in 1982, had 64 kilobytes of memory and became one of the best-selling computers ever.

Commodore's updated version will run Windows 7 but also has an emulator capable of playing games written for its ancestor.

Commodore has started taking orders for the C64x, priced at $595 (£364), and said the machines would ship between May and June. It is expected to appear in shops later in the year.

The machine's internal hardware will be based around a dual-core Intel Atom D525, a chip typically found in notebook computers.
aaah the memories!

Re: Classic Commodore 64 lives again

rose tinted glasses wearing geeks will buy it then the name/brand will disappear again for few years.

last time i remember seeing the name Commodore being used, was a few years ago, a company making Alienware style gaming PCs.

Re: Classic Commodore 64 lives again

they were doing something similar to this a while ago

there is a thread on the Amigo type machine http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/19...dore-64-a.html

and here is the machine it actually was http://www.cybernetman.com/en/all-in-one-pc/Keyboard-pc

this machine runs windows and an amiga os VM. I imagine this is just a retro version of the same thing

commadore are still selling that as the Vic Pro http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_VicPro.aspx

Re: Classic Commodore 64 lives again

I could not afford a Commodore 64, i had to make do with a Vic 20 and the squealing tape deck!
