V+ / TV / Blu-ray surround connections?

in your opinion, what would be the best way to connect these together... ?
(googled images for all of the unit's connections below)

if i connect the V+ box to the Sony unit, do i always have to use the Sony thing for sound or would the HDMI to the TV still be on?

V+ Box

Samsung LE40C750 TV

Sony BDV-E370 3D ready Blu-ray Disc™/DVD home cinema

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

Im not sure what your getting at here? The V+ will connect to HDMI1, your Bluray will connect to HDMI2. Your Bluray player has no passthorugh Input connections and the V+ only has Scart pass through which your Bluray obviously wont support. These will act as independant devices on their own HDMI cables.

HTH

P.S. please resize your pictures!!

Go into Start Menu, select "Accessories", then select "Paint" - open the picture you wish to resize, and select "Image" from the Paint Toolbar menu, and select "Stretch/Skew", and choose about 20% for both options for the enormous photo.

btw, no need for - your massive photo makes the CF page very difficult to read.

Update - done it for you.

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

To get surround sound on the V+ you need to connect an optical cable (Toslink) from the V+ to your Bluray (which has an optical input).

Your Bluray must be switched on and the function set to the digital input that uses the optical connection.

if the Bluray is off, does the sound still work VIA HDMI? or is it a case of once SPDIF is connected, V+ only sends audio via that?

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

Yes sound will still work via HDMI to the TV, optical sound will only pass to the Amplifier in your Bluray Player. You can disable the HDMI sound by changing the audio override option in the Display and Audio menu of your V+ box.

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

Awesome... thats sorted then.
V+ >>>HDMI>>>TV (to watch standard cable TV with no surround sound)
Bluray>>>HDMI>>>TV (to watch DVD's)
V+>>>Toslink/SPDIF>>>Bluray (for sound enhancement)

Thanks Weesteev

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

Just want to point out that if you have game consoles or other devices plugged into the TV the better option is to go optical from the TV too the Bluray. This will give you surround on any device that you plug into the TV.

would you say that's better than doing the optical from V+ to bluray?

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

Only if you use more than 1 device on optical, saves you buying multiple cables.

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

the Sony unit only has one optical input, so it will either be the TV or the V+ box.
unless i convert the digital coax to optical.

Re: V+ / TV / Blueray-surround connections?

You only need to connect the V+ to the Amp, the TV wont need to be connected now as all your sound will output from the V+. If you add further devices in future (like an Xbox or PS3) then rather than having multiple optical cables then running one from your TV to the amp would support whatever device is being used on the TV (as long as the amp is on at the same time.)
