Hi

I live in Denmark, and I'm rather ****ed with the prices on some TV's over here, so I thought about purchasing the Samsung PS50B650 in the UK: http://www.rgbdirect.co.uk/ProductDe...PS50B650S1WXXU (749£)

But i noticed it has a "U" (UK) at the end of the model-number, so that's why I'm here

I'm having difficulties understanding what difference there is on non-UK models and models with the U-appendix, but I know I need an adaptor for your three-legged wallplug (you're forced to have your set grounded, but we're not in Denmark, but the power is the same, 230V@50Hz).

In Denmark we "obide" by the DVB MPG4 standards on both the DVB-T and DVB-C tuners, but are any of you guys aware of the tuner specifications of that particular Samsung model (PS50B650S1WXXU)? I know that you've got something called Freeview and Freeview HD, but what about your Cable providers, are they DVB-C MP4 or ?

I really hope you'll be kind enough to answer my questions, since saving 200£ means quite a bit on my current budget.

Thanks

Re: dvb-c

If it's UK spec then it's doubtful if it'll be DVB-C as the main cable supplier prohibits equipment other than thier own. Most freeview is not currently HD so unless it's the latest, latest spec it's likely to be Mpeg2 DVB-T and that's it..

You should be able to get the full spec online from the manufaturer..

OK, can't find the U version but I could find the C version online and you are correct in it doing DVB-C, DVB-T with MPEG Profiles and Levels MPEG2 MPHL, MPEG2 MPML, MPEG4 AVC/H.264 HPL4 So it should do HD cable and freeview..

Only way of telling though if the U version does what you want is to ask the people who you're going to buy it from

BTW - Welcome to the forum

Re: dvb-c

My SONY Bravia just uses a kettle lead like a standard PC I imagine Samsung will be the same so no modding required. I would also imagine you will be using HDMI or Scart so you are gonna be plugging a box into it. I would be surprised if it didnt just work

Simply put just dont use the TVs tuners

Re: dvb-c

AFAIK Uk HD DTT will also use DVB T2 as well as H.264 HP@L4. Its all done using MPEG2 DVB transport streams.

The analogue side of the TV will probably be set up for PAL I which has a different carrier frequency to other parts of Europe (though most sets these days allow you to select it).

Re: dvb-c

Thanks all. Been away for some time. Still looking for a cheap 37" - 46" ex500 or ex700 with DVB-T/C MPEG4 tuners.
