From what I've heard about the n97 & mini it really depends on the firmware you get, if its stock or even 3 then you are ok. If you go for orange you're likely to be in trouble and I don't know about the other carriers.
The only big reason I can think of not to go for the N97 is due to its similar price to the N900.

Yep. They maybe the Ford Modeo of the mobile world. Basic (and improving) but very reliable and easy to use.

From personal experience Sony/Erricson are an absolute nightmare.

Re: nokia

Please don't do it! I am currently on my 3rd N96 and can't wait until April when I am out of contract and will be going over to HTC (Legend or Desire)

I can honestly say the N96 is the worst phone I have ever had and has put me off Nokia's for life.

I have heard that apart from the memory it is basically the same O/S as a 5800 with has the latest firmware onboard, this is from one of our Mobile colleagues when I also enquired about upgrading to it.

Sounds to me like its just the screen but it could even be water damage to the mainboard. Have seen the same thing happen with either.

On a more positive note I was in the same situation as the OP and I got rid of my N95 8GB and got an N900 today..... That is one sexy phone!!!!

huh? struggling to understand your post.

If its a white line on the screen it sounds like you may need the screen replaced. Worth going to a phone store to get it checked though.

If your peripheral port is still set to auto try using your tv out cable to connect to your telly to test the mainboard.

Re: nokia

The problem with slide phones (All of them) is the ribbon cable connecting the top and bottom. It could just be that, or it could be the screen. Either way they aren't that expensive to repair.
