For the money get a PS3. With free firmware updates and blueray, as well as upscaling normal DVD you cannot go wrong.

Re: Upscaling dvd players

Well the ps3 is a bit more than I wanted to pay, although I know it's ace! The Samsung I'm looking at is only £60,but I know you get what you pay for!

No SCART! - which may be a problem if you need a SD interconnection with anything else. Also, the use of a coin cell for the remote, I would rate as a negative, though you can get a cheap strip of 5 from some bargain stores.

http://www.datakits.co.uk/store/sumv...ot-p-3882.html - Wow, cheap for an upscaler!

Or an upscaling recorder with Freeview (refurbished) for £59.95

That Sumvision might be a cheap alternative for upscaling at the moment!

Anybody got one??

Re: Upscaling dvd players

I ended up buying the Samsung f1080.At the moment am very happy with it,upscaling is very good for the price! Yes no scart, but intend using it with hd lead so no problem there. If anyone is interested I got it at Comet and they knocked £10 off! after i told them it was cheaper on net,£59.99,looks good and works well.

Why not just get a PS3?

AFAIK, it's widely regarded as being one of the best BD players available, plus I think it's still the only one that's fully Profile 2.0 (BD Live) compliant (& one of the few that can be updated).

Top-notch BD player & upscaling DVD player, plus divx/xvid playback, etc. Oh, & games too

Re: Upscaling dvd players

'Cus I haven't really got ~£290 to spend on another console (happy with a Wii) at the moment.

I'd rather wait until P2.0 gets released on standalone BR DVD players.

Re: Upscaling dvd players

Fair enough.

Although standalones are still quite pricey too, I think.

And it's Blu-ray, Blu-ray Disc, or BD, not BR DVD

Why spend £200+ on Blu-ray players that are, well just Blu-ray players when you can get so much more for £300. The reason you give doesnt really make sense, your not just getting another console.

I've no interest in the PS3 - I wouldn't use it as console, so the extra functionality would be wasted on me.

A lot of people have said that but yet now have games for it, you say you have the Wii, so why wouldnt you? Plus the fact any new Blu-ray standalone spec 2.0 is going to cost more than a PS3. Its seems strange and I must say daft to spend just as much or more on something that can not do as much. Plus the fact that its got wireless built in and can stream things from a PC and be used as an all in one multi media player, with internet accsess and hard drive built in, also the fact that there will be a video service released soon? Plus the fact its being said its one of the better players in its price range, even better than some at an higher price, Im just baffled.

Re: Upscaling dvd players

Shawty: I don't want another console because we already have the Wii which we are very happy with. I don't want another games machine that I would spend my money on. Money is not tight for us yet, but a PS3 would be a another luxury.

The Wii has wirless built in which I have connected to my LAN so I have access to all devices including internet.

Why do you have to be argumentative on your posts? As I've said, I want a standalone Blu Ray player but yet you harp on about how good the PS3 is, when in fact I think the Wii is sufficient for our needs.
