The Wii has wirless built in which I have connected to my LAN so I have access to all devices including internet.
Why do you have to be argumentative on your posts? As I've said, I want a standalone Blu Ray player but yet you harp on about how good the PS3 is, when in fact I think the Wii is sufficient for our needs.

But Im not talking about the console side, you started that. Anyway, Isnt a Blu-ray player another luxury? I just dont see what your getting at, Why pay about the same for one thing, when you can pay the same and get a lot more for even just future use. Forgetting about the gaming side, it still offers a lot more than a standalone Blu-ray player of the same price, but hey, its your money.

Some people like to buy "Stand Alone" units. Like you can get a TV/DVD Player & VHS in one. Personally I'd not get one. I'd rather get seperate units & if one fails replace the one.
I know what you mean about the PS3 unit being better for £100 more. But I did not fancy getting the PS3 (I got the Sony BDPS 300 instead) as I'd never use the Games on PS3 & just wanted a player with real R/C & to fit in my unit.
Since I had my player, my friends PS3 has failed (1 month over the 12 months free cover) & had to buy a new one... Also they heat up so much & to me they were just not worth the extra £100 at the time I got my HDTV.

But why, forgetting about gaming, all though it is a good extra, forgetting the Hard drive and wireless and internet accesess, forgetting the video download service coming later, forgetting all those, the PS3 is said to be one of the better Blu-ray players about in that price range and even higher and already comes with 2.0 profile. If all your going to use a PS3 for is a Blu-ray player, your only ever going to have to replace that, as thats all you use anyway, sot hat reason doesnty stand true, all though I see what you where trying to point out.
The main reason I hear for people not choosing a PS3 for a Blu-ray player is they want a standalone and they dont want a games console, well just ignore the gaming side and you still have the standalone Blu-ray player, which offers a lot more features that standalone Blu-ray players dont have.
But hey, like I said, its his money, I just dont understand it.

Re: Upscaling dvd players
Although the PS3 is a good all rounder and will let you do a lot of things, for around the same price you will get better specs and performance for your money.
I would personally go for the Panasonic BDP-30.

How will you get better performance and specs? It was said and is still regarded that the PS3 as a Blu-ray player is still one of the best out there around the price that the PS3 is.

By waiting for 6 months - then the PS3 will be outdated.

At the moment...as I said - I'm willing to wait until next year when Profile 1.x / 2.0 is released and then the PS3 will be outdated in both hardware and possibly software terms if Sony don't release any more firmware upgrades...
PS - Sorry Darth!!

You mean like 6 months after the PS3 first came out? Over a year and a half later, its still regarded as one of the best for its price. Naturally something better is coming to come alone, standalone wise, but then your constantly doing the waiting game.
PS3 is already profile 2.0 and what are the chances of SOny dropping firmware updates to make it better?
PS - Sorry Darth!!

Re: Upscaling dvd players
I have a samsung BD-P1500 which I am very happy with. Upscaling is about equivalent to a 3rd generation upscaler. It is not the best in the world at upscaling, but neither is the PS3 (not far off). Both are much better than bog standard dvd players. I bought it for half of what a PS3 costs. Sadly the price hasn't budged at all and has even gone up. For someone that doesn't have the cash or the inclination to buy a PS3 I'm very happy with it. A friend who has a PS3 and has the habit of knocking down anything anyone else buys as a "rip off" didn't think it was too bad, so it passed that acid test too.
