Personally the thought of wearing such a daft device would more than counteract the tendency to doze off.

Some suggest it would speed up mind numbing tasks.

That's just a bog standard EEG cap. This research was done using FMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) which involves lying in a full body scanner (which is rather claustrophobic, noisy, and somewhat restrictive as it doesn't agree with metal objects very well).

Well very hard to do anything but doze off in that...So how does one do anything remotely like work when in one of those?It can't really be a truly fair test as most mind numbing jobs involve being upright to a degree.

I think that it definitely needs more research and definitely more funding.

Better still give the money to me and I'll prove it by actually reading the research..I guarantee I'll be asleep before the end of the first paragraph even on my feet.

I think the researchers (as quoted in the BBC article) are taking a few liberties as to what might be possible in the near future.

I'm somewhat hesitant about a lot of this imaging research. As far as I'm concerned it shows little more than different parts of the brain lighting up when doing different tasks. It's very popular at the moment though, and attracts a lot of funding.

I used to have to have an MRI scan twice a year from being 4 years old right up until I was about 9-10, then had them once a year untill I was around 14.

You get used to them, eventually!

EDIT: BTW they used to be a lot bigger that the one in that picture.
