Smile Digital Camera Memory Cards

I've just bought a Panasonic FZ50 Digital camera and am looking to get a 4Gb SDHC card on which to store my images and any video I take.

There are apparently different classes of SDHC card but sometimes Class 2 on one brand is faster than Class 4 on another. My camera will only work with cards bearing the SDHC logo and adhering to the SDHC standard.

Can anybody recommend from experience a good card please that can read and write the SDHC quickly?

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

How about a Sandisk Extreme 3 2Gb SD? should be able to get ~ 400 photos unless you are saving as raw.

---------- Post added at 13:05 ---------- Previous post was at 12:56 ----------

Alternatively, if you can wait until 18 Feb, you can get a 4Gb SDHC class 6 Extreme III.

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

I bought a Transcend 4Gb 150X from Amazon for about £27 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transend-4Gb...219928&sr=1-20 for my Casio and it works fine. Not sure what the difference is with SDHC but they have a 4Gb SDHC class 6 for £7.34 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-Fl...2219832&sr=1-2. Not sure what kind of reputation the make has but as I said, I've had no problems.
Hope that's some help

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

I'd also personally reccommend the "SANDISK SD Card Extreme III", I use one with my Panasonic FZ18, and it reads/writes very quickly

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

The actual read/write speed that you get will depend on the card AND the camera. Some people have spent a lot of time benchmarking various combinations. Here's two lots of results:

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...e.asp?cid=6007
http://www.hjreggel.net/cardspeed/

If you can't find the FZ50 in the database then try to pick a similar camera from the same manufacturer.

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

Can't help you on the card details, but the FZ50 is a fantastic camera. I have had a play with it and will be making a purchase next month.

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

Taken from HERE

The SD Association has created and defined 3 speed
classes to help you identify speed and performance
capabilities/minimum requirements of SD/SDHC cards
and the host products. The SD Speed Class Ratings
specify a minimum sustained write speed for SDHC
cards (Class 2: 2 MB/s; Class 4: 4 MB/s; Class 6: 6
MB/s*).

if you shoot in burst mode, you want a faster card really, so the buffer won't run out as quick.

Re: Digital Camera Memory Cards

class 6 is the fastest for sustained speeds with 6Mb/s being obtained, but you'll likely pay more for it!

Yet the Play.com advertises the same card as Amazon and Play.com says that the card does 20Mb/s.That's more than enough as the camera only needs 10Mb/s.

My next card will by a eye-fi 2gb (or 4gb if they do it) I'm sick of carting round my cable everywhere.

I would imagine that is read speed? the class goes by the sustained write speed, which is the important bit if you are shooting in burst mode.

Well according to this review its the read/write speed.
http://www.onlinememory.co.uk/sandis...der-p-738.html

So it looks like it can cope with burst speed too!!
