Re: The iPhone thread
Probably get this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digi...3419672&sr=8-1
Not as nice an interface, but better connectivity and codec support. Shame because interface is very important to me and the film rental.

Re: The iPhone thread
I have to admit, I got lucky. They were getting rid of a few old Shuttle boxes from work. I was able to nab one, get a Geforce 6 graphics card (I needed a half-height AGP card for the machine, and this was the most powerful I could find) and install Xbox Media Centre on it.
Does a lovely job of streaming pretty much any media from my NAS.
It's physically bigger than the Apple TV, but considerably smaller than the v+ it sits next to. It doesn't do HDMI, but that's not a problem as I only have an SD TV set. It does have a 160 gig HDD, so I can store a fair bit of media on it even without the NAS, and I did get it for next to nothing (the machine was free, the GFX card was £40).

Re: The iPhone thread
if you have a PS3 why not use the PS3 media center on a PC? It transcodes, offers HD Support etc...

Re: The iPhone thread
iOS4.1 is out, in case anyone hasn't hooked their phone up recently.
Oh, & the Jailbreak for it should hopefully not be too far away

Anyone with iOS4 signed up for the Game Centre yet? My ID is "Tezcatlipoca".

Re: The iPhone thread
Yup, got ya listed now
Did you get a shock from the awful trumpet noise the Notification uses? Mine went off earlier when someone added me, & I didn't know WTF it was.

Yes basically it removes the restriction of only being able to install software via the App Store.

Re: The iPhone thread
I see, thank you
I would ask the question " How does one go about that" but maybe this is not the place.

Re: The iPhone thread
it isn't illegal, and I haven't done it to mine, don't see why I need to, but I suppose googling is your friend!

Re: The iPhone thread
If using iOS4.0.1 or lower, simply visit http://jailbreakme.com on the iPhone's browser & follow the instructions.
There are also other methods for earlier iOS versions & other devices.
iOS4.0.2 & above cannot be Jailbroken using http://jailbreakme.com, as iOS4.0.2 patched the PDF exploit used by the site to perform the JB. Other holes still exist, however, & there should soon be a programme for Jailbreaking iOS devices running iOS4.1 (current version) via connecting it to your PC/Mac (like previous Jailbreaks, prior to the http://jailbreakme.com method).
The iPhone Dev Team are the main Jailbreaking guys, & have a lot of info at their site: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
Wikipedia entry all about Jailbreaking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking
EDIT: Oh, & although not illegal, it *does* void your warranty (if Apple find out). It can be removed easily enough though simply by restoring the firmware via iTunes.
