Smile Looking For A Good Combined VCR/DVD recorder

My Panasonic VCR has packed up on me and I'm looking for a replacement which has all the benefits of the old one plus a built-in DVD recorder.

I'm trying to find one with the TV-link so that the unit can send data to and receive data from the TV. I also want to have Freeview built-in if possible.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Re: Looking For A Good Combined VCR/DVD recorder

I have a VHS / DVD combo, but the DVD is read only, I can't recall ever seeing a VHS combined with a DVD recorder - or how to spell 'bump'

- happy to be wrong, of course

Re: Looking For A Good Combined VCR/DVD recorder

I had a VCR/DVD combo once and it had no end of problems. Ended up taking it back.
I always find that combo things are not as good quality or do the job as properly as seperate dedicated appliances.
You'l find that most of them are DVD players only and even if they recorded you'd have issues with copyright protection, etc.

If I was you I'd pick up a VCR for about £30 and then get a good DVD Recorder.
Then you can hook up the VCR to the DVD recorder by Scart or any other device you want to record from and then burn straight to the DVD Recorder.
The fact it will be it's one machine dedicated to one thing, encoding and burning your files to DVD will mean you will probably get better results.

Re: Looking For A Good Combined VCR/DVD recorder

Behold!

Panny VCR / DVD Recorder with built-in Freeview.

Even has HDMI, apparently (I assume it upscales DVDs).

£229.99

Argos also have VCR / DVD Recorder units without Freeview, & have ones with a HDD too.

Dunno what it's like, though.

Re: Looking For A Good Combined VCR/DVD recorder

The problem with having combined machines is when one of them goes bust. Do you buy a new combined machine or just a replacement for the part that has gone bust.
