MPAA sets up P2P sites..

No, they haven't seen the light and embraced digital delivery. These are honeytrap P2P networks. Log on to one, and you'll find your IP has been recorded.

Although, according to the article below, it may be hard for the MPAA to bring any prosecutions as a result of these sites, as technically, this is entrapment.

According to the blog linked to in that article, the Miivi site was pulled a few hours after it was discovered. I posted this because there may be others.

Nothing they can do about it...

The MPAA would need to get into the newsgroups ISPs... Then people will start bricking it

Although they could still carry on with private actions, rather than prosecutions, on a case by case basis.

Re: MPAA sets up P2P sites..

They've got to get your name and address from your IP to do that and I can't see it washing over here.

Surely any such action would still require evidence of wrongdoing, and any evidence gained through a method such as this would be inadmissable?

even if you visited the site and they logged the IP providing you didn't try to download anything they haven't got a leg to stand on anyway.

and even if you did try to download something they still haven't got a leg to stand on.

Totally agree. I think usenet with an SSL connection is the way to go. And even if they close Merlin, it'll only take 5 minutes for them to set up a clone of the site somewhere else. Look at the proliferation of mp3 blogs. There's more and more every day. The copyright organisations are fighting a losing battle.
