Blueray or HD DVD?
If you were to contemplate buying a HD DVD player or a BluRay player which one would you choose ?
Which of the two formats do you think will beocme the dominent one ?
Are you waiting to buy your next player until you are sure one of them becomes standard ? I think that is what I intend to do.
So, which is the one for you ?

Re: Blueray or HD ?
Blu Ray had a good start due to the PS3 but in the last couple of Months HD DVD has recovered. Partly because of the poor sales of the PS3 and the fact the first spike in sales was due to free copys of Blu Rays disks to new PS3 owners. Stand alone HD-DVD players are out-selling Stand ALone Blu Ray players.
I would go with HD-DVD because 1) Its cheaper for the companys to make 2) Not sure if they used it yet but HD-DVD can can the normal DVD on the other side, safegarding your collection should HD-DVD fail 3) Damage on the surface of the disk isnt as bad as blu-ray

Re: Blueray or HD ?
They both do High Def at up to 1080p and are both a digital source.

Re: Blueray or HD ?
They both do the same No difference in video or audio quality The Main differences are
Blu-Ray has a greater storage (more content etc)
HD DVD uses the same manufacturing process as DVD and is therefore cheaper to manufacture than Blu-Ray

Re: Blueray or HD ?
I tend to not bother most of the time with additional features.
Very rarely will I watch bonus or extras on a DVD.
What I like is to just put it in the drive, press play, and watch a movie.
More space would be useless to me, unless of course it is being used for a higher quality video format that needs that amount of space.

Im sure ive told you before that free copies of HD DVD disks were also given away with the HD DVD Drive for the Xbox 360. Also damage is less likely to happen on the Blu-ray, they have a thin coat of scratch resistant stuff on them, not HD DVD. I hate it when people skew facts on such an expensive product that could just swing someones opinion on buying it. If you dont have the facts, stay away.
Its cheaper for the companys to make? Whats that got to do with the buyer? Blu-ray disks are just as cheap as HD DVD and Blu-ray players are getting just as cheap ( with in £50 ) I dont consider the cheapest HD DVD player at £250 to be a fair comparison to Blu-ray and HD DVD players at £400 due to the cheap one not doing 1080p. So it might be cheaper to make, but i dont see that helping the customer at all.
Also it would be nice to see some evidence of how the stand alone players are doing.

Might be the way to go. if they give it the chance. You know how technology works. Why would they bring that to the market yet when there is many years left in HD.

Re: Blueray or HD ?
because technology moves fast and to keep up they will have to release it.We are only touching on the potential of all these technologies look at how things have moved in 5 years. Imagine where it will be in 10 or 15

Re: Blueray or HD ?
There are some players that support both formats.
This would be the better option to go for

Erm... the reason Blu-ray has that coating is the data is stored very close to the surface and is more likely to get scratched causing data loss. HD DVD just like DVD has its data further in the disc so is less likely to get scratched causing data loss.
Blu-ray may have the upperhand on storage space but the tech behind HD DVD is better as it can have 2 video feeds at once i.e pip making of or visual commentaries.
Also the Adult movie industry is in the HD DVD group so that will possibly be a deciding factor in who wins the race. It helped VHS beat Betamax!!
