Vtec Mirage C110 Dect phone

Hi there. As a new member I am not sure if I am in the right place. I think I might be so here goes.
I have a Vtec Mirage C110 telephone which was very useful as I could take it around the house with me. After a few years I find that the batteries no longer re-charge and I have been forced to re-charge the batteries manually every two or three days. Not good at all.
It will cost far more than a new phone to have it repaired and it is after all the best phone we have ever had. Nothing else wrong with it and everything works fine.
I am guessing that the base will hold a mains to dc rectifier set-up and wonder if I could get in there and perhaps replace the rectifier (assuming that it is the rectifier that is no longer functioning) and in so doing, renew the ability for the batteries to re-charge in situ.
Does anyone have experience of this type of repair and/or this model phone? Sadly the model is now discontinued and no data available for it. I would greatly value any technical help in sorting this problem out. I have been involved in electronics for many years and have built projects involving this type of regulated voltage dc rectifiers. Might I hope that someone will do a bit of head scratching and come up with some constructive help. Regards to all the members. Walt.
