Re: Anyone recommend a good way to add GPS to my Phone
That phone doesn't have a windows or symbian OS- so you can't install something like TomTom or CoPilot on there- your only option AFAIK is a java based solution- but you'll have to pay for the data usage- and unless you have a bundle like t-mobile web and walk this won't be cheap.
An example:

If I go for a seperate GPS Reciever like this one http://www.nav4all.com/site2/www.nav...enguk/shop.php then wouldn't the data come from this device rather than my phone.

Isn't that just the antenna? - You're going to need one of those anyway, it's what transmits the sattelite signals to your phone.

Exactly, what has been said is that, your phone has no operating system for the nav software to communicate with, so it looks like a no go as far as gps reciever to phone, I don't know about the other software ( java based ) but that could and will cost
EDIT: if you were thinking of spending money on a gps reciever and satnav software you could buy yourself a cheap XDA off ebay and a gps reciever and aquire the software from the www. total cost ..........about £100 or less

okay thanks guys. Might just buy one. It's not something I use all the time but was thinking if I could shoehorn one into my phone for little or no cost then that'd be cool.
Guess I'll have to stick in on my Xmas list and see if Santa thinks I've been a good boy.

Re: Anyone recommend a good way to add GPS to my Phone
MMMmmm and looking at that free service, it still has to call in to get the route and if you go a different route it calls in to recalculate it. Not very expensive I'm sure but still a small running cost. I guess the route you should take ( ) - depends on how much you're going to use it. If it's a lot you could look for a 2nd hand symbian / win mobile phone from ebay or similar - get a gps antenna and do it that way.
Otherwise get an antenna and use the one listed above.

Re: Anyone recommend a good way to add GPS to my Phone
I still find the best GPS Receiver I have had to be the Fusion Infinity Solar GPS receiver.
30 hours between charges. Compared to the 8 hours the tomtom GPS receiver quotes (never seen one last past 5 hours though) it's a hell of a lot better

Re: Anyone recommend a good way to add GPS to my Phone
Hope tomtom have got over the suicidal data cards they used to use heh
Saw 6 units wipe the card spontaneously, 3 of them during the recommended backup procedure., 4 were tomtom units, 2 were tomtom mobile., all on different machines.

Car phone warehouse have a graphic depicting gps on a k800, not sure what software it is.
For a gps reciever try this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/1...m_medium=10939
Only £45 charges via mini usb, comes with a in car charger that can be used to charge a multitude of devices (using your k800 data cable it will charge your mobile). Its also run off a nokia type li-ion battery which are cheap to replace/get another.
