Home appliance insurance
Can anyone recommend good insurance for say 7 appliances (washing machine/fridge/ freezer/dishwasher/tv etc etc).
I know some might think of it as con but in the last 2 years I called out an engineer twice for my washing machine, and once for the cooker. Washing machine needed a new drum. It made the 5 year covers I bought at time of purchase very worthwile, and for peace of mind Im considering renewing them. I keep having nightmares of my fridge and freezer packing up.
Am I a mug? or does anyone have any good cover that they can recommend?

Re: Home appliance insurance
not sure, i tend to find this kind of cover stupidly overpriced. but wouldn't the contents of your fridge/freezer be covered under home insurance? sleep tight

Re: Home appliance insurance
I'd rather spend the money on new appliances and getting extended warranties on them.

Re: Home appliance insurance
Once your appliances reach a certain age, I'd be surprised if you can get affordable breakdown cover. We live in a throwaway society and everything is designed to fall apart.

Re: Home appliance insurance
I'm with Rob on this one - especially if they're all around the 5 year mark. For the amount you'll end up paying for a years cover you'd be better taking the chance on it and just replacing them for something with a decent warranty if they do pack in.

Yup Domestic and General are the big players, they do all the insurance policys for places like Curry's, dixons, comet etc
Usually you will get a reminder letter before your covers up asking if you want to extend it, as I noticed you put you had already got 5 years cover.

Re: Home appliance insurance
Because of the amount of stick that our washing machine gets we rent ours from boxclever.
Then if/when it breaks it costs us nowt.

Re: Home appliance insurance
Domestic and General's premium rates are climbing wayyyy faster than inflation.... I tend to go direct to the manufacturer within a few weeks of the appliance purchase... though some now hive it all out to Domestic and General anyway these days.
I recently had a letter from D+G requesting £65 for a year's cover for a TV that cost approx £120 new about 3 years ago... but could be replaced by myself on failure for about £80!

I didn't know you could still rent them, is it fairly cheap to do so?

Then again if you bought one and put the rental money in a bank youd be quids in when it breaks down and you need a new one
