Re: Best DAB Radio
The best DAB radio will be the one that also has FM. You will then be able to leave it on FM.
Seriously, DAB sounds rubbish. Unless you've already listened to one, then you will be disappointed.

Re: Best DAB Radio
I Have a Bush TR2003DAB which is OK, also a Goodmans GCDR1955 CD/DAB Clock Radio which is not bad though the CD player doesn't like CD-R disks that much.

Re: Best DAB Radio
If I was you I'd go somewhere like John Lewis and have a listen to a few to see what you think. While they CAN sound bad it does also depend on the rate the station is transmitted at and the amount of errors you are getting.
I'd definately get one with FM tho.
I have a goodmans and a roberts one, both ok.
p.s. if you go somewhere like John Lewis they will price match

Re: Best DAB Radio
DAB is over-rated. Radio 3 for example is only on 128 kb/s - whilst at least the reception is better than it is on FM here (I live on the side of a valley, and it's kind of shielded from some TV / radio) the bit rate annoys me (strings especially sound rubbish) and i'd just rather listen to a CD. (Even my MP3s are 192).

Re: Best DAB Radio
DAB clearly isn't the big leap forward it was supposed to be. If it was so great, shops would be phasing out the selling of standard FM type radios. Many Hi-Fi type systems costing a few hundred pounds may have a tuner, but for FM, not DAB.
If people are still commonly buying non DAB stuff, how will the government even be able to consider a standard FM switch off?

Re: Best DAB Radio
Im going to have to agree with everyone here. Me and the misses recently purchased this unit
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5133020.htm
We didnt have a stand alone unit so we opted for this, while DAB is ok, it isnt a brilliant leap from normal FM and the quality on some stations sounds like a bad RSS stream.

Re: Best DAB Radio
The UK is actually far ahead in digital radio, but unfortunately with an older system based on MP2, compounded by a quantity over quality approach.
According to some research, the allocation of the bitrate is also less than optimum.
DVB-T radio channels and Sky radio channels are both superior to DAB.

Re: Best DAB Radio
I have a pure tempus 1. Its an alarm clock radio with a snooze handle, so great for waking up cos it has three separate alarms. I recommend it. I think it cost around £100 ish. You can also get software updates for it through the USB connection.
