New Camera

I am looking at getting a better digital camera, preferably SLR and I have seen this one. It is highly recommended on the site and its quite a decent price.

What are you views on it?

Re: New Camera

if your going for an SLR i assume you want to be able to change lenses? Do you have existing lenses from a film SLR you might want to be able to use? If not you might want to consider the cost of lenses.

Personally id go for the Canon EOS400D

Re: New Camera

I will eventually want to change lenses, just after a better camera than I have. I know lenses are not cheap but I am looking to build them up as I get better.

I have looked at the price of the Canon and its quite a bit more than the one above.

What does anyone else think?

Re: New Camera

I have a Fuji S9500!

For a start, it's not an SLR. It's known as a 'bridge' camera 'cos it tries to bridge the gap between 'point-and-shoot' and SLRs. The 28-300mm lens is fixed and cannot be removed.

Another bridge camera to consider is the Panasonic/Lumix FZ-50. This is considered by many to be the best in its class.

Also, the S9500 is being replaced 'real soon now' by the S9600 which is basicly the same but with a few tweeks.

The lens quality could be better but, on the whole, I find it okay.
For some examples, look at the first three 'chapters' here:

Re: New Camera

I have the canon 30d and its a great camera. I found the viewfinder very small on the 300d and 350d and I think the 400d is the same size. The problem this gives is it makes manual focusing very hard.
have a look here for opinions and problems

There's two real camps in the photography world...Canon and Nikon. Personally I'm a Canon man, as their 'L' lenses are about the best of the two, but 99% of camera owners will never spend a grand on a lens, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

There's the new Sony Alpha, which is causing some interest as it's a true DSLR (they bought the camera division of Konica Minolta) and they claim that they're going to develop some impressive Zeiss lenses aimed at the amateur and pro markets - but Sony do have an nasty habit of doing something great then discontinuing it a few years down the line.

The lens fitting on my latest Canon DLSR is the same one as on my first proper film camera 16 years ago.

Fuji have a good reputation on producing good quality consumer level cameras. But the link you've provided is not an SLR.

Is there a specific reason why you think you need an SLR?
