Mobile noob

I've never really been into mobiles but have decided to upgrade my prehistoric Nokia 3310. I don't want a new contract I just want to buy a phone minus the sim that will work on the Orange network. I would like a mobile that has picture messaging and an mp3 player which I presume would also work with mp3 ringtones? I also want as cheap as possible.

Any of you mobile guru's out there got any ideas on which model to go for?

Ta

Re: Mobile noob

I suspect you would get a much cheaper deal if you do upgrade and accept a new contract. The network providers often have bundled phones cheaper so they get your business. It's why loosing a phone is so expensive that way you pay market value.

As for the model you should go for, haven't a clue. I'm sticking with my Nokia 6310

If you want to stick with Orange try one of their shops or the web site http://www.orange.co.uk/

The reason I say this I don't want a new contract is because I am on a pay as you go contract where whatever I use is debited from my bank at the end of each month and I want to keep it that way.

The cheapest way you will get a new phone is by buying a new Orange PAYG phone and when you register it say you are upgrading so you can keep your old number (this will transfer to the new SIM) and your old SIM will be deactivated.
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/upgrade/payg_upgrades

This way you will get a slightly subsidised phone.

The only phones, I know of, currently available with MP3 player and ringtones on Orange PAYG are:
Sony Ericsson K700i - £139.99
Nokia 6230 - £169.99
Motorola V635 - £199.99

Re: Mobile noob

A contract subsidises the cost of the actual handset hence why they can afford to sell them cheaper, a sim free handset is most expensive, payg is a cheaper way of buying sim free but most of the top of the line handsets work out cheaper by getting a 12 month contract and not using the sim card provided and just paying it off that way.
