Infra Red LED Circuit

(I wasn't sure where to put this thread, but this seems most appropriate)

I've got a "video sharer" that lets me beam video into another room and which has an "infra red mouse" (basically an IR LED on a wire) that allows Remote Control signals sent back to the master unit to control the video etc.

It not particularly good (its power output was, IIRC, 0.2Ma whereas remote controls seem to put out 2Ma, meaning I had to put it right next to the receiver to get it to work at all!), so what I want is to build a small circuit that will take the output from the master unit connection and drive an Infra Red LED with a bit more "oomph"!

Unfortunately I don't know enough about electronics to be able to do this!

I've had a look around on google, but I've not seen anything like what I want, so I thought I'd ask some intelligent people on here (ooh flattery, flattery!

)

I figure what I need is a battery to drive the LED with a transistor in the circuit that will be switched by the output from the main controller, but I don't know what sort of transistor nor which order to hook the things up to make it work.

If anyone knows how I can do this I'd be very grateful.

I'd go with what Raistlin has found, seems OK.
However, if you know nowt about electronics it might just be better to get another extender thats already built to do the job.

I do know *some* things about electronics eg how transistors work (but not the difference between the types or how they need to be connected up) however I don't know enough to be able to build a circuit from scratch because its's something I've never tried.
