Problems with engine management on car

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, couldnt think of a better place for it.

I have a T reg Vectra 1.8 16v LS

Recently its been running a little odd, I can drive 40 or 50 miles down a motorway, but when I come off the motorway to a junction the engine will cut out instead of idling.

Now the engine has the ability to automatically adjust the timing if i use super unleaded or normal unleaded fuel, however this has not made any difference. I've tried cleaning with redex, no difference.
Its really bugging me and is now getting dangerous as it cut out in the middle of a roundabout yesterday. The spark plugs are less then 12 months old.

Does anyone have ANY ideas?
Or can give me directions to a decent garage in teesside that can run engine diagnostics

Re: Problems with engine management on car

I remember an old car of my mate's - would suddenly start jumping like it was going to cut out. He took it to a carburettor specialist who fixed it. Might be a similiar problem in your case

Re: Problems with engine management on car

Yeah I've been looking about th einternet it seems its quite a common problem on the eco engines.

Many advise changing breather hoses etc, but the car is running fine everywhere else, surely had there been a hose problem then the car wouldnt have the same performance?

I was thinkning perhaps the idle valve, but I really dont want to go stripping the car down, seems a shame to break it when everyhting else is fine lol

Would Network Q take a look at it?

Re: Problems with engine management on car

Cars booked in this morning,

£28.50 for the diagnostic, but they think its the idle valve oraaj sensor, its a very common problem on the 1800 and 2000 Eco engines.

Idle valve should be in the region of £140 dunno how much to fit!!!!

I need the car to go to London next weekend though and do 200 miles in the next week so I'd rather go ot the Dealers.

Re: Problems with engine management on car

All done.

Engine diagnostics
Drilled out the breather holes on the Carb chasis
Re-programmed the ECU
Ne breather hoses etc

£105.75

Not bad for a dealership

and I'm happy because since the re-programmed the ECU the car is like merd off a stick again
