Laser Printer memory.... SAMSUNG ML2250
So I've just ordered this laser printer in the hope that it'll cut down the cost of printing out stuff for dilli jr to draw on.
But I have a question for you clever lot
I note that the printer has 16mb memory
What I'd like to know is :-
What does having more memory in the printer do? and what sort of memory is it? Can I use standard memory (I've got lots of various types of memory lying about)
Thanks for your replies in advance

more memory in the printer means two things really.
1. Quicker release of the print from your PC as the printer can initially consume more of the data before the buffer fills up
2. You can print higher resolution stuff
i have two printers. the laser is a very old HP one and when i upgraded the memory i had to get memory cards specifically for that printer

Thanks for that
I guess I won't find out if 16mb is enough 'till I start using it then.

I have 9mb in my HP6l at work, it allows me to print full circuit boards with lots of groundplane on (which uses lots of toner & fills the whole page).
On a printer without it I wouldn't be able to do that.

the only issue is if one page needs more than 16mb, but highly unlikely
i just had a quick look, seems like it uses SDRam

Re: Laser Printer memory.... SAMSUNG ML2250
Yup - up to 144mb.
This is why I was confused - why have the capability to have so much if it's not needed.
But it looks like I'll be ok with the 16mb.
Thanks one and all

yeah i cant understand that. Most operating systems spool the print in order to release the application that made the print request. So its not as if it helps stop the PC hanging if the printer is connected to a printserver.
Does it do duplex printing? that needs more memory afaik
check out ebay for cheap toner cartridges, i know they last ages, mine lasts over a year but its still a shock when you have to buy one. Ive used out of date cartridges and they work fine
