MP3 player purchase
I'm going to buy an Ipod Photo 60gb from PC World tomorrow (subject to opinions from Ipod or other HDD mp3 player owners) for £309 as I have some travelling to do soon, is it worth it? Are there any better mp3 players I could purchase instead?

Re: MP3 player purchase
i think it's pretty much the best on the market. the photo bit and the colour screen are slightly gimmicky (do you *really* need a colour screen on an mp3 player?) but overall is very good. i've had a original creative zen 20gb, an ipod 20gb and am now on a zen micro 5gb. out of those my ipos was the best, so would say that the ipod photo is a logical step.
how did you manage to get it so cheaply??

Re: MP3 player purchase
I'll ring them tomorrow and see if it's in store locally, if not I'll just order it off the site.

Re: MP3 player purchase
I'd personally advise against an Ipod Photo, because it will only display photos (and play music). Lots of competitors though are offering video, which future-proofs your investment.
I don't know how these fit in to your budget, or what prices are, but AFAIK they are in the same league. Here's a few suggestions to point you in the direction anyway:
1. Creative Personal Media Center
2. Archos
3. Iriver
HTH.

Re: MP3 player purchase
Do you really need the photo aspect of it ?
Seeing photos on a little screen isnt much good if you want to get the full picture looking all nice and shiny. You'd view them much better on a PC.
You could save yourself some money and get a standard Ipod instead.
I really like mine. It stocks tonnes of music and looks good.

Re: MP3 player purchase
i will only say one word IRIVER IRIVER IRIVER IRIVER IRIVER IRIVER
ok same word a few times!! I've got a solid state IRIVER IFP-195TC and its a few years old now, however i can certainly vouch for their quality, plus everyone ive known that has had an IRIVER has been more than happy with it.
If you going to be travelling will you have a laptop? If so get a solid state one but dump your stuff on the laptop. If not then take a look at the PMP140. Id also recommend this site for buying any MP3 player, superb service, advice and a price promise too.

Re: MP3 player purchase
I like the CD-based ones personally, but for a HD based one that looks good.

Re: MP3 player purchase
What I want to know is why people go on about iPods all the time. Okay I haven't looked into the portable MP3 player market but from what I have seen and heard you can get a player from other manufacturers which will do the same job just as good if not better than an iPod and also be a lot cheaper as well. I'm sure I can't be the only one who thinks this but in my opinion people that opt for iPods or Mac computers are putting style before substance. So come on you iPodders, prove me wrong and convince me that the iPod is the best player on the market

PC World is the cheapest place I've found for the 60gb Ipod Photo, apart from Amazon, but then I can just walk into PC World and try it out before buying it, if i get it home and it's knackered, I can just walk back in with it, it's only 5 minutes up the road.

A price promise? They're not doing too well with it, over £114 more expensive than PC World, I think I'll avoid them until they learn how to use Kelkoo or Pricewatch as they're far more expensive than more other retailers.

Re: MP3 player purchase
Dont buy it from PCWORLD! (why do people buy stuff from them anyway?).
Have a search on the net!
