iTunes - Not Picking Up Track Names
A few of us at work use iTunes to rip and listen to music, and it seems to work fine in most cases.
One of the guys though is having problems. He puts in a CD and it does not recognise the track names. The 'Accessing CDDB' box appears for a second or two then disappears. Clicking 'Get Names' gets the same result.
He has a Dell Inspiron D600 and we all have Latitudes. He's tried uninstalling, copying pref files from me, updating IDE driver and nothing seems to work. We got it working one afternoon when he copied my pref files but it stopped again the day after.
I've been onto Apple Discussion, but no use for this specific issue.
Its a bit of a pain cause he's trying to get an iPod, so does not want to spend ages adding track names and artists etc....
Any help appreciated - there are some reps awaiting distribution
SBH.

Re: iTunes - Not Picking Up Track Names
Well it's not accessing CDDB, is that an http request? If not what is it. Is his WAN connection the same as everyone elses? Does it require authentication?

We all access the same network with the same proxy and exclusions.

Re: iTunes - Not Picking Up Track Names
Yeah make sure you dont have a firewalll eg. zonealarm blocking its access to the net to get track names.
Apart from that cant think what else.
Check the internet settings are configured correctly in Itunes.

Sorry, left this Friday and picked up again today when back in work.
iTunes does not have any specific net settings in Preferences.
Just been looking at regedit and the guy in question does not have a CDDB entry. In fact it looks completely different to mine. Its probably that, but I don't know how to fix tbh.

Re: iTunes - Not Picking Up Track Names
Try re-installing iTunes? Sounds like the registry settings may be borked.

May sound dumb but is it a copyed CD or Burned CD or a retail CD? Have you tried using the same CD is yours?

Re: iTunes - Not Picking Up Track Names
but when i insert a blank CD i get the CDDB box appear with "Getting track name" then Itunes appears, and my CD displays as Track 1, Track 2 etc rather than the real names of the tracks. Is this something to do with ZA or Itunes?

Could be either, but its similar to the problem I'm having.
They guy in question didn't have any CDDB reg entries, so he copied mine, but still no joy. Might just give up..........

Its really strange, you dont suppose if i was to contact Apple and explain the problem they might fix it in their next release of Itunes or Ipod update?
