Converting .ram file to WAV
I've got a .ram audio file I want to convert to WAV - can it be done? As far as I know .ram files are played by RealPlayer and I'm trying to convert it using Cool Edit Pro but it's not converting, the audio just becomes about a second of static.
Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Converting .ram file to WAV
Yeah, I googled too but it's a one-off thing so I don't really want to pay.

Re: Converting .ram file to WAV
An audio recorder such as Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ records the output from your sound card. It's not the same as directly converting from one file format to another but I have used it to record live .ram streams from the 'net and it works very well (provided you don't have any other bleeps and pings on your system while it's recording, as it'll pick those up as well!). Because it's recording in real time, it takes the length of the .ram file to complete the conversion.

From the Streambox Ripper site:

Previous versions of StreamBox Ripper (also known as Ra2Wav) converted RealAudio (.ra and .rm) files into WAV files. However, due to legal issues, Streambox Ripper no longer converts RealAudio or any RealMedia files.

.ram files are protected, yes, but that shouldn't stop Audacity from working because it isn't interacting directly with the file, but with the sound card of your PC. Audacity should simply record exactly what comes out of your PC speakers.
You should be able to start the file playing in Real Player, then hit 'record' on Audacity, and off it goes ... have you checked that Audacity is set up properly (it's recording from the soundcard and not your microphone)?

Re: Converting .ram file to WAV
If you can't convert it, you playrip, recording from WAVE/MP3 source if supported, otherwise from "Stereo Mix" / "What U Hear".
If you have Nero, try the RM/RA plugin from http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org
