use microsoft outlook ? want to reduce spam ?
if you use microsoft outlook then there is a feature to disable 'automatic sender confirmation' which could reduce spam, as it does not send back a confirmation that the email has been recieved.

Select Options from the Tools menu, click on the E-mail Options button, then click on the Tracking Options button. Make sure that Always send a response is not checked. If it is, uncheck it to stop automatically sending e-mail confirmations to spammers. If you have the automatic response selected, you may be unwittingly verifying your e-mail address to spammers. This tip is specific to Outlook 2003, but similar settings should be found in previous versions of Outlook.

Thanks Kronas. I still am getting a lot of spam. Is it the same for Outlook in Office XP?

Re: use microsoft outlook ? want to reduce spam ?
I think this feature is available in most email programs. In the latest releases of Outlook Express and the full blown Outlook the autoacknowledgement is usually turned off by default so you get a pop up asking if you do want to send a response.
Reslistically, some of the best ways to avoid spam are to avoid giving out you email addy indiscriminately, and don't post it to visible areas of web sites, where bots will eventually scan it.
If you are using ntl email, or similar, many spammers seem to guess the email addys using derivatives of common names. Therefore accounts named firstname.surname@ are highly likely to get spam. But if you mess it up a bit and use something like firstname.number.surname@ the spammers find it hard to find you.
It's worked for me, before I changed addys, to the odd formats, I got loads of spam. But for months now I've had not a single one.

Office XP has a junk mail filter.... just right click the mail and click add to junk rules.... or something like that,
then it will add the sender to the junk mail box...... mine does a pretty good job on its own, its not perfect but reasonable
