windows update on google news

Hello, just clicked on a link in google news about microsoft and a box saying windows update has popped up. It asks for where my nearest location is but only has north america on it. I cant get it off the screen and cannot close the session it is in. Can someone tell me what it is and how to get rid without downloading whatever it is please?

Nope, sorry it isn't.

The GRC "ShootTheMessenger" app is only for Windows NT/2000/XP, as they are the only versions of Windows that feature the "Messenger" service (which, before anyone asks, is nothing to do with MSN/Windows Messenger).

Can't be of any more help than that, sorry. Not sure what is causing your problem.

me too cant get to microsoft.com and i am from leicester wat the hell is rong with ntl why cant their get it right damnn pain in the ass when i need to update my computer:pp

i went onto the windows troubleshotting forum they are loads of people there who cant access windows update

Same here - getting 0x80072EE7 errors. Have a look in your Windows Update.log file (in your C:\Windows dir) and see what is says - searching the net suggests DNS issues ?!?!

Anybody else having probs?

Very strange - I can't even reach www.microsoft.com at the minute - anybody else care to test for me please?

I have just been to update site and www.microsoft.com with no trouble.
I come under Mansfield and on a new notts cache 10.
Seems like it might be a local/intermittent thing.

@Houghie - what cache are you on, it should also be a Nottingham one?

Cache 10's IP is 62.254.0.48 if you want to try setting that explicitly

Cheers for the info - have set explicit cache - can now get to M$ page, but Update is still screwed - this is so frustrating.

Gonna give up and try tomorrow - if I find out this is all down to friggin NTL then I'll scream - what a wasted night!

i have had another go at getting update and i got to work but i had to turn my anti virus off plus avg before it will work there must be another way becuse if you have to turn these things off then something is sadly wrong
