Uber-Spam
According to this news article, we'll soon be seeing fullscreen, 30 second video ads on transition between webpages (well those sites that decide to use the ad delivery system anyway).
As if pop-ups weren't annoying enough
Also, because it's wm9 based, it again restricts users who can view the pages.

Re: Uber-Spam
Any site that decides to host this kind of ad will surly see its visitor numbers drop which kind of defeats the object of ad driven sites.

I fully agree, I can`t see anyone sticking with a site that has this kind of intrusive advertising. I find Flash interstials annoying enough but this would be enough to guarantee that I avoid a site outright.
What are they going to do if you don`t have WMP9 available on your system, or like I do, only allow it to have access to the internet when I know I want it to have access?

I agree I don't see it ever taking off, and even if it would, someone would probably write a stopper for it.

If you use Mozilla or Firebird (you might know this already) there are some plugins that can help quash this sort of thing.
One of them stops embedded flash from loading and gives you a button on the screen that you can click on if you want the plugin to load. It works great for speeding up download times and preventing annoying flash ads.
Another one called ad-block, can be used for blocking images and embedded flash and all sorts of other stuff based on regular expressions. I'd definately reccommend it, I've been using it about a week and already based on the info I've given it I rarely see any ads.

That's what I'd like to know, they're playing platform fascism again.

Take a look here for more info.

The Video Commercial IS NOT:- Streaming video which inevitably results in buffering and freezing even on a broadband connection
- Partially pre-loaded or “politely†loaded which does not guarantee consistent playback
- Flash video
- Dependent on a consumer downloading software
- Dependent on consumer connectivity

Re: Uber-Spam
There going to force a 2mb advert at me It would be the first and last time I ever visited the particular site if they did.

new advertising a bigger threat then pop ups ?
over the next five weeks, 15 websites will be testing out new advertising methods more acustomed to a television.
the sites will include 30 second video adverts to be displayed while surfing page by page, so you may encounter them a few times while browsing a particular site.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3453663.stm
i wonder if there will be an option to skip them ?
but this will get annoying if it catches on, hopefully not too many sites will do it as it requires bandwidth usage ........

Re: new advertising a bigger threat then pop ups ?
I just won't use a site if they go down this route, but I guess there will be people out there that will come up with a program to counter it, after all look at the number of ad/pop-up blockers out there.

However, a 30 second commercial would, I believe, see thew quick decline in that site. Also, what allows someone to 'force' someone to pay for it (i.e. Dial-Up costs).
And then you can see the next step - where companies will then take it a little bit further - 40 seconds, 50 seconds, a minute (after all, what is an additional 10 seconds they will say each time).
Trouble is, Microsoft are involved - so looks like the best chance of Netscpae to re-impose itself (remember when it dominated the browser market - and no one had heard (or wanted) explorer)
