XP SP2 beta
I have just installed this monster service pack and am having trouble with internet explorer saying that I cannot display pages which contain Active X components even though I have explicitly enabled this feature!!!
Has anyone else seen this, I cant find anything on MS knowledge base either!
hope I'm just being thick!

Re: XP SP2 beta
If anyone asked me whether they should install beta software I will always say no. (unless you have the knowledge and patience required to reinstall your operating system and appreciate the risks involved)
The more important the software, the more important it is to stay away from development code.
I'm sorry if that sounds like a sort of "i told you so".. but it was worth pointing out nonetheless.
As far as solving the immeadiate problem is concerned, you might be changing the setting individually.. but are the overall security settings overriding it? (tools -> internet options -> security tab) try setting the level to medium or low

Re: XP SP2 beta
I'd have a look but my MSDN subscription never got renewed so I can't actually get hold of a copy :| I did know that IE blocks malicious installations from Active X but perhaps you've found a bug that needs reporting, I've seen forum posts elsewhere with people having the same problem and no-one has mentioned a way of fixing it yet.

Re: XP SP2 beta
I think I read that there was an upgrade to the XP firewall included - could that be causing it?

Re: XP SP2 beta
i have tried the xp sp 2 beta and i get that same error message however it seems 2 only come up when a page cant be found or doesnt exist.
In another words in my experience the error message is wrong, its nothing to do with activex its just the page isnt there.
I have never had any problems visiting any pages. I am not sure whether I have visited pages which have this activex components. I probably have. If someone gives an example of a page with active x components I will try it.
Its a really annoying error message. Probably will be removed when xp sp2 goes live from the beta stage.

there is a major upgrade with loads of extra settings available to tweak, I'll check it out in a min, I've only just finished the install so I am just poking around at the mo! thanks for the suggestions though.
Point taken about Beta software but I am lucky enough to have loads of machines to play with here at work and nothing much else to do today. I can roll this pc back in about half an hour using the 2003 RIS server which was last weeks project. If anyone needs some help with RIS, just fire away

In all fairness they're taking their time with Longhorn .. which is still slated for a 2006 release.
