Web hosting question

My little site points towards my girfriends web space on NTL.....I have a domain name but if you enter that and then go to the site it then comes up with the full ntl stuff like her name and all that.
How come on sites do you just get www.theaddy.co.uk/index or www.theaddy.co.uk/next page?

Is it because they have dedicated web hosting? At the moment i am using the Non-framed web-forwarding because it means my stat service works......I tried using Non-framed web-forwarding to a single page but this meant that my stats didnt work!

How is it done?

Re: Web hosting question

You can get domain forwarding services that "cloak" the real URL, cjb.net used to do it (think they charge now) causes all sorts of problems with certain bit's of javascript though.

You can use www.no-ip.org as a forwarder - it will only show the domain name in the url and not the webspace.. You need to enable masking..

Re: Web hosting question

You can use web forwarding to a framed page if there is an option in your user control panel with whoever the domain name is with...

You will loose some functionality within the page if you need everything to be contained within the one frame, but without trying ti I dont know exactly how much it woudl affect you.

PM me if you need clarification on this, and Ill try to help

Re: Web hosting question

I think the best option to pick then is Framed web-forwarding.

The stats service not working is one of the downsides to using web forwarding I'm afraid. You do know you can get hosting (plus email) for this for about £10 a year?

Well you would need to update the dns database with where you would like yours pointed, but

www.theriverkelvin.co.uk/index.htm
www.theriverkelvin.co.uk/useful information.htm

etc...

My wifes site

www.thesilvernutmeg.com is a redirect to
www.thesilvernutmeg.co.uk

This would be what it would look like i 'spose

Re: Web hosting question

In 123-reg settings theres an option for web forwarding to a framed page ...

Select this

and then at the bottom type your NTL webspace address in the space where it says at the bottom

That should do it

Sorry to not be anymore precise, but you should be able to find your way to get it to work with those instructions

Good Luck

I would think that a framed redirect would interfere with stats software, just because of how it cloaks the real URL. You would not have this problem if using what is known as virtual hosting rather then web forwarding.
